To a certain extent I do agree, I hope to either succeed at eliminating the reference requirement by 2015 or to challenge it myself that year as I look to renew.

Personally, I am very very happy that it was turned over to me. It is a lot easier to have a reference call then the Sheriff representative call a reference and they aren't home.

I plan to apply for a new LCTF in Columbia County this year, I hope everything goes just as smoothly. In Dauphin County the Sheriff didn't even contact my references and I was issued my LCTF within 10 days.

Yea, I have read a number of posts where references weren't called. I guess it is a crap shoot in PA. Best of luck - let us know when you get your LTCF.

You are a good 37 miles away hekel32spl. I had to search to find out what you meant by record is expunged - hope that goes well for ya.

Like I said earlier, it is my understanding that it is up to the individual County.

Personally, I am very happy that the Sheriff wanted the references to call - it saved me all the time required for a reference card to reach one of my references, etc. That alone could add weeks of delays if the reference just put the card in a pile on the kitchen table and forgot about it. So, I much prefer to just have my references call the Sheriff.

I just went through the LCTF process, it was totally painless. Took a week from start to finish and they were very helpfull.
