Default Unarmed man attempts to rob EMU student carrying holstered gun

An unarmed man attempted to rob an Eastern Michigan University student of his handgun Thursday morning while he walked on Pearl Street near the campus in Ypsilanti, university officials said.
According to an email alert sent out by EMU, the student — an open-carry advocate — was walking at about 9:15 a.m. in the 300 block of Pearl Street when he was approached by an unknown man. The man grabbed the student’s holstered handgun and attempted to wrestle it away from the student, according to the alert.
Another person walking by the area came to the student’s aid and was able to secure the handgun, EMU said in the statement.
The suspect fled the area on foot, and no one was reported to be injured.
The man is described as black and in his early 20s, with a thin build and a beard. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, red shirt, dark pants and gray and orange tennis shoes.

I don't believe that story for an instant, cause that only happens hundreds of times a day in South Philly.

Actually, this story can be used to show how responsibly open-carrying is not a bad thing.

Some of the comments on that story on the website try to use this event as a reason for why people shouldn't open carry...'Look, see, the guy almost had his gun taken by a bad guy'.

But that's the point...almost, but no cigar!. The good guy obviously retained possession of his firearm, someone even helped him out, and no one was injured. In this RAREST OF RARE events of an armed citizen gun-grab, the good guys still prevailed. To say, 'What if the crook were successful at his gun grab, then he would have shot the good guys' is to prove my point. Exactly my point...all they have for an argument is a 'what if' argument at the end of the day, even in the worst case scenario of an attempted gun-grab.

We can what-if things all day long...I prefer to stay with cold hard facts of what actually happens, in the real world. And here we have it folks, in the real world, in the rarest of rare events of an OCer having his gun grabbed, the criminal was unsuccessful.

This story is not a reason not to OC...it is a reason to think that people can OC even in the face of the rare reality of a gun-grab criminal.

I wonder what would've happened if that stranger hadn't come to his aid. (oh shit, I just what if'd)

Sounds like a perfect scenario to pull your folding knife.

How do they know the attacker was unarmed?

Funny thing is, if he was CCing he would not of been targeted in the first place. Out of sight, out of mind.

BTW, I'm not a fan of OC, but I respect the right to do so.

Thank God the student didn't profile.
