Cool Denied gun check at Citizens Bank Park

I have read here often that you can check a firearm at CBP. The wife and I were meeting some friends for the game. We took the broad street line from Fernrock transportation center to the game. When we got there I was looking for someone doing poor pat downs. They were all very thorough. So when it was my turn I informed the gentleman that I needed to check a firearm at the command center. He said no problem and we were escorted to the command center. When we get there this female officer asks what department I am with and for my ID. I inform her as I am giving her my ID that I am not an officer and that I am just a citizen. That changed everything, she said only police FBI and secret service are allowed to check their firearms there. I asked why they would have to, and she had no answer. I told here that I researched this before coming down and this is the protocol I was given. I decided to put the gun in my friends car so we could see the game. Had we not had tickets in the suite, I would have just left and went to Philly Live. That place was mobbed. To all the others that have checked weapons there, are you police, FBI or secret service?

    From their website:

    Weapons

Firearms, weapons, knives, tasers and other dangerous or hazardous devices or substances (collectively "weapons") are prohibited at Citizens Bank Park, unless carried by an on-duty police officer or otherwise expressly approved by The Phillies. Anyone bringing such a weapon to the premises should return it to their vehicle immediately. An off-duty law enforcement officer who is carrying a weapon may check it at the Police Room before entering the ballpark.

My understanding is that the MLB changed their policy on firearms last year and civilian firearms are no longer allowed to be check. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Can you provide anything (news story, blog post, newspaper clipping - whatever) to back up your understanding? Maybe you're right, but "I heard x" isn't really anything to go on.

I wish I had a specific news story to quote. I know there was a thread on this forum at the end of last season stating that a PAFOA member was denied a firearm check at a Phillies game and that was the explanation he was given by security.

That stinks! It looks like they have silently changed their policy. I have checked my CCW in the past, but only once over a year ago. You're at least the 2nd person I know who was turned away recently.

Are there events other than baseball at the park? Will they check firearms during those events?

Fuck the Phillies. I hope this puts a curse on them.

That's unfortunate and definitely a change from last season. I wonder if that's a MLB/Phillies rule change or if CBP banned them. Just curious who Phillies fans who ride public transportation back to less-than-safe neighborhoods at 10:30 at night should start complaining to.

All of the above have a financial stake. Complain to all of them.
