    Default Need a .308 semi

CMP has special grade garands in 308. New barrel, new wood, all refinished parts for around 1k.
A FAL built from a parts kit is more than that.
A M1A is half again as much. I might find a chinese one for less.
I was never impressed with the CETME.
HK's or SCAR's are too pricey.
Are there any other options? Before I spend all my gun fund money?
I can fill out the forms and have it shipped to my door.
Talk me out of it or into it.

How about a Russian VEPR in .308. The super VEPR's are awesome. I think the barrel lengths are up to 27" in the super VEPR in .308.

Although I recently purchaced an AR10 in a .308 with an 18" DPMS SASS barrel.

I also got the e-mail from the CMP about the new .308 "garands" and I think they look very interesting. Personally, if it were me, I would go for an AR10 platform. Much more versatile than the M1A or .308 Garand platform if you want it for bench rest shooting. It is also a lot easier to mount some glass. I don't know if your into builds at all, but building an AR10 sounds like it could be a ball. Ive only done 1 AR15 build and it was just great.

Go for the AR10, just my .02

I'll vote for an AR10 as well.

I never thought of the AR10. That is a good candidate. I've heard good about VEPR, but I'm more interested in a military type. A DSA FAL is another choice. But again they don't show up in the gun shops too often. I would have to order one sight unseen, and I know nothing about them and how they work. An AR or a Garand I'm familiar with. I think the AR would be more accurate. Plus the ability to mount a scope. Thanks everyone, now I need even more money
