Right from the sheriff's website "THE APPLICATION IS A TWO PAGE DOCUMENT HOWEVER FRONT AND BACK MUST BE PRINTED ON ONE PAGE

    2*REFERENCES*THAT RESIDE IN*CARBON COUNTY REQUIRED
    (Name, Address & Telephone Number)"

Wether he should be doing that is besides the point. It's his game now I have to play by his rules. Even if they're bad ones.

So if he required an anal probing on "his" application then you'd be ok with that too?

You know that he's required to follow the laws of the state, same as you are.

You could always go against his rules and follow the UFA and have him deny you for breaking one of his rules. Then appeal it, that would be the correct course of action.

Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

I'm not saying I agree with it either. However, if playing his game I could get my LTCF in the allotted 45 days than I'll play it. I imagine an appeal of a denial would take much longer.

...and things will never change. So you've come to accept that an elected official is allowed to violate the laws with no consequences. This is how we lose our rights, slowly over time because people become complacent and allow it to happen.

Just moved here (Palmerton) from Florida, where I also had a permit. Since I am now a PA resident, I need to get my PA permit, in Jim Thorpe, of course. I have already filled out the requisite application and am using two friends from out-of-state as references, both of whom I have known for over 20 years.

I would hope that the application will be accepted "as is", but if turned down because of the "Carbon County resident" rule, I will let everyone up here know. Even though I have been here since July 2013, I don't have any available references in Carbon County. If this is the rule, maybe we could start a "referral service" up here and support each other.

I hope to visit the courthouse next week (June), so we'll see very soon what happens.

The sheriff cannot legally deny issuing your LTCF for the reference thing. What he could do is (illegally) not accept it to begin with until you follow his made-up "rules".

Yup that's what they did with me. I guess they would rather have 2 neighbors I barely know than friends I've had for years. One a NYC PO and one a Vet from the first Cavalry. Also make sure you get physical addresses. I had to scramble and get a physical address because no one lives at the post office. Once the paperwork was all filled out they barely looked at it, called no one, swiped my drivers license and took my $20. 10 minutes and I had my permit. My buddy the cop from new york was amazed on how quick it was.
