    Default 9mm Home Protection

I am going to start looking for a gun for home protection. I want to go used and 3 different people that I know told me to buy a 9mm. Is this the size gun that I should be looking for? I have a 12 Gauge Shotgun for hunting, but since I've had children I can't sleep at night thinking I couldn't get to them fast enough getting out my shotgun and loading it before something happens to them. This thought, and possible house fire have consumed my nightly fears when i'm in bed.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There's tons of discussion on that question. Try searching around to see if you find some good advice.

The shotty would be a better SD tool if you didn't need to load it when it's needed.

    And... Welcome to the forum!

And if you get overwhelmed with all the great info you get here, take a ride down to Gun Toter's on Betty St. Eynon. Knowlegable guys there with tons to choose from. Welcome.

Pretty sure they do, they're pretty flexible, but I'd call just to make sure.

Go handle a lot of guns. Find one that fits you and you feel good about.

9mm is just fine, but you could likely shoot a larger caliber just fine if your pistol mechanics are good. Caliber of 9mm and above is not a problem. Pistols are just generally harder to shoot well than a shotgun or rifle.

    I have 9mm, 7.62x54R, 12ga, .223, and .22 for home defense.

Fortunately, I don't like any of my neighbors.
