I took the NRA Basic course a few months ago. I too am self taught. A lot of it was review, but I did pick up a few things. For $50 I think it would be worth going to.

As with anything... it depends on the teacher and student relationship.

You would be surprised what you will learn from a "refresher" course such as the NRA BAsic Pistol Course.

My wife and I took the class a couple of years ago. We had a great time and learned a lot.
I always stressed to my son"one shot one kill that was all that is needed". When He came home from Marine Corp Boot camp He was telling me about the Marines stressing "ONE SHOT ONE KILL" He looks at me and the light bulb went on Dad was now a whole lot smarter than he was 13 weeks ago.

If its by the book they'll go over:

    Safety
    Types of firearms (revolver/semi-auto)
    Types of actions (SA/DA/DAO)
    Cleaning
    Range rules
    Proper sight alignment
Propert grip, stance (sitting bench wrest, standing 1 and 2 hand) , breath control, trigger discipline.

It'll be from the perspective of target shooting but its well worth the money even if it just ends up being a refresher in the basics.
