Lawrence County LTCF Questions

Hi everyone,

Well to start off I applied for my LTCF about 3 weeks ago in Lawrence County, anyway I get a letter along with my LTCF card attached to it yesterday. The funny thing is that the Lawrence county Sheriff has some do's and don'ts that I believe do not hold any legal backing. I didn't know if anyone had a similar experience with their issuing sheriff or if this is a Lawrence county sheriff only issue. Anyways the letter among other things states:

"DO NOT CARRY YOUR FIREARM INTO ANY: BARS, FEDERAL BUILDINGS, COURTHOUSES, AIRPORTS, SCHOOL"

I am well aware that federal buildings, courthouses, schools and airports are defiantly off limits. Through searching the forum and reading some of the PA gun laws, I could find not a find a place that said carry in a bar or place that serves alcohol was illegal (I'm not looking to debate if it is an ethical choice to consume alcohol while carrying or not)

The other thing that stuck out was: " You must carry the firearm CONCEALED on your person"

The way that I read this is that Open carry is illegal when in reality is it perfectly legal in PA.

It seems as though the Lawrence county sheriff is pushing his own personal opinions and agenda rather then the actual State and federal laws. Anyone have any input on the subject?

You are correct. Bars are not off limits. Airports are not offlimits except the secure areas. Many say that with a PA LTCF schools are not off limits, though it has not been tested in the courts yet.

EDIT: It has been tested in the courts, schools are not off limits.

It is the same letter they have been using for years... imo it is only his opinions.
Everyone who has answered is correct and your letter is full of fail.

Not correct. GunLawyer001 (a user here) successfully used the "other lawful purpose" defense in the Court of Common Pleas.
