    Default M16 Bolt Carrier

Has anyone had any experience with BCM bolt carriers? Most of the Colts I have encountered have been Viet Nam era pull outs which have been re-parked and advertised as new . I tried one of the new fancy coated bolts once and it broke a locking lug off next to the ejector slot , so I'm not impressed with some of these " high tech " items . I'm looking for a spare for in the bag , but I want one of quality manufacture . I would appreciate any experienced advice anyone would be willing to offer .

    Thanks , DECO49

My older brother has one; it has been through a carbine course and various range escapades with no problems. I would have got one too, except they were out of stock when I bought my BCM. Ended up with a DD instead, which is also just fine. I believe they have great customer service, so you won't be left high/dry if there arises any problems.

BCM BCG's are good to go. Made to the same specs as the colt carriers.

Bolt Carriers/Groups from BCM are good to go, definetly among the best out there. They are true mil-spec full auto style carriers. Get the version with the gas key staked already they do that right and they do sell a "stripped" version as well.....

Daniel Defense and Lewis Machine and Tool ( LMT) F/A Bolt Carriers and groups are of the same quality. LMTs come to you dirty as they test fire them before they leave the factory if you go that route.....

    Good luck....

Be careful with spares. Putting a new bolt in an old gun requires a headspace check.

I didn't know that, why? I was under the impression all bcgs were identical in size.

Checking headspace anytime you replace a bolt or barrel is good practice . alot of things can change tolerances , barrel torque , barrel indexing , chamber depth ,locking lug wear , bolt locking lug dimentions and wear to the lugs . Military components are all made to stringent Mil specs and verified with guages , but on assembly do not always meet the field guage requirement , using another bolt usually satifies this . Anytime you do these replacements in a " civilian atmosphere " I would recomend having the headspace checked .
