    Default Nagant 7.62x38 revolver

A buddy of mine is planning on purchasing a pair of russian nagant 7.62x38 revolvers. He told me about them, and i realized i didn't know anything about these revolvers or this round. Just figured id ask what yinz all thought about these revolvers/ammunition.

I bought one for the neat factor only - not one that is a daily shoot by any stretch. 7.62 nagant ammo is expensive when you can find it. I believe you can shoot 32 S&W through it ( don't hold me to that, I've heard that but not sure if it is 100% true/safe ). PITA to load/unload. For $100 though, I had to have it again for the neat factor and a piece of history

I have seen those around at a couple places for $100, I was thinking of picking one or 2 up just for the neat factor also

Just remember, the 38 has nothing to do with our 38's. They are .32's and you can shoot .32 longs and .32 mag's out of them.

7.62 is about .30 cal, the 32 references the length of the case, 32mm.
Its a big pistol shell, the AK47 uses a 7.62x39 for comparison.

You can shoot 32s from them but it will shave a bit from the bullet though since they are a 30 not a 32 and wll cause alot of fouling.Cabelas now usually has 7.62 nagant ammunition for $25 per box.

Just to clarify, .32 S&W, .32H&R and .32ACP use .317" bullets, not .32 . IIRC, 7.62x38 uses .31" bullets. The .007" difference is not really anything to worry about, especially if you're using lead bullets (which most of .32S&W and .32H&R are).

Also to clarify from what others have said, when they say .32 Magnum, they mean .32H&R Magnum.......do not try .327 Federal Magnum in the Nagant. It's chamber pressures are twice as much as .32H&R. Just as a side note, .327 Fed Magnum uses .317" as well, just like it's smaller brothers. The "327" is simply a marketing moniker playing off the popularity of .357 Magnum, and not the actual size of the bullet.
