Default philly jury duty - anything changed?

I've got Jury Duty tomorrow in Center City. I called in tonight and was warned by the automated voice on the other end of the line that weapons were not permitted and would be confiscated and not returned, etc. etc. There's an earlier thread here about checking a firearm at the CJC at 13th and Filbert, but that's three years old. To anyone with more recent experience, I'm not going to get my gun confiscated if I check it as soon as I walk in the door, right? I'm just a little leery taking public transportation in without my gun, especially in my neighborhood. I just wanted to make sure nothing's changed since 2009 when that thread was active.

Any court facility in PA (doubt federal though) should have a place to check your firearm by law. Hopefully someone more familiar with that court can tell you for sure if they have it

Cool Re: philly jury duty - anything changed?

Possibly, the more important question is, why the hell did you not get yourself OUT of jury duty??

    I kid, I kid.....

@skyopompos - since when has Philly ever let a pesky thing like the law (18 Pa.C.S. § 913(e)) stop them?

@flick - try everything once, right?

ETA: I'll have to post back here tomorrow with my report. Here's hoping it's a dull report!

yes, those mobsters of Philly are above Pa law, we tend to forget that they think that.

Well, I plan to carry, I plan on showing up early enough that I'm not rushed while exercising my rights, and I plan on bringing a copy of the law along with me. One of those trips to Hburg I ended up with a compilation of PA gun laws from one of the state senators' offices. I'll bookmark the relevant portions.

A lot of gun stores have those as a courtesy from senators also. I know the one I picked up recently didn't have the castle doctrine in it though. I got mine at insight firearms in norristown

While not there for jury duty, I was at the CJC for Viper's criminal trial. I went in to the front desk, told them I had to check a firearm, showed them my LTCF and was escorted to a small room. I picked an open locker, placed my gun, holster and spare ammo in the box, took the key, told the officer the number and then stood in line for the metal detector.

I don't know if this is different for folks there on Jury Duty.

It was actually pretty routine. Went to the front desk, said that I'd like to check a firearm, was asked for my "gun permit" (and since I'm not enough of a wise-ass to make an issue out of it... ... I let it slide), and gave the deputy my LTCF. He wrote down my name, LTCF number, and a time, led me to the locker, and told me to choose from a bank of at least 50 lockers. I took my key, went through the metal detector, and that was that. I just now stepped out for lunch and it was just as easy - go in, unlock your door, get the gun, and walk out. Surprisingly simple for Philly. No questions, complaints, dirty looks...it was actually a professional and courteous experience.
