When my son was five , I gave him a vey bright flashlite . I told him to pretend it was a loaded gun and to always pay attention to where the beam was pointed. We aways took our little walks a little after sun set so he could easily see where the beam of light was.
We had done this little trick for about six months. I promised him I would buy him a CO-2 bb pistol if he could be safe with that beam of lite for six months. Do you have any idea how long six months is to a five year old.
It's like 6000 years , but he did it.I give the boy a lot credit , he wanted that
BB gun bad. He only lost focus three times and that was really good.
If it's any help , good but try it ,it worked for him quite well.

To be perfectly honest with you , my grand daddy did the same thing to me.
It don't matter who's idea it was ,it worked.
