    Default H&R 999

I really enjoy acquiring my H&R's I was in my gunshop the other day saying that I wanted a nice Sportsman 999 next, and another customer there said he had one, and it was in fact outside in his car, he just returned from the range! I headed to a gunshow in Mass. so held off until I got back, but couldn't resist so I gave him a call, and picked it up from him today. Great gun, great price, and as always, met another great gunowner at my local shop Looking forward to taking her out for a spin.

Nice looking top break. Fun to shoot, easy to clean/maintain and above all....cheap in ammo.

    Nice find!

The 999 is my favorite gun. Super accurate and faster to reload than a side opening revolver.

I own one too, inherited from my Dad, great gun, lot of fun. Only problem was some fail to fire problems on occasion but a good cleaning has taken care of that for the most part. Yours looks like it is in great shape, good luck with it.

your Sportsman is pre 1950, solid rib. slotted ribs were later manufacture. I have the twin. one of my favorite guns.

Mine is actually slotted, hard to see in my pic. I was told it was mid to late 70's.

Range Report - Took her out today, and all I can say is Wow ! If anyone has the opportunity, pick one up ! This gun is accurate as all get out, ate all my Wildcat ammo without one hic up - the tip up is super easy to eject and reload, and a blast to shoot. Best $ I've spent in a while

The letter(s) in the serial number determines the year.

If you want, I can get you the birth year.

Thanks ! Mine starts with AN. I can never find a good complete listing of H&R seriel numbers to reference. I know I found one once, but haven't been able to locate it. If you have a good chart to share, or website, I'd appreciate it!
