Question Going to be new Pa resident and am wondering...

    Hello all.

I'm going to be moving to Pa in the (fairly) near future. Probably a years from now.

I currently live in N.C. and have my N.C. concealed carry permit.

N.C. DOES have reciprocity with PA.

I visit here on a regular basis but do not currently have a PA address.

I notice that PA offers non-resident concealed carry permits.

Is there any reason I should get my non-resident carry permit in PA before I move here?

Or are the rights extended to me through the reciprocity agreement between N.C. and PA sufficient for now?

You could get your LTCF now. When you move to PA your NC permit may not be valid anymore due to North Carolina's laws. With you already having a PA LTCF, by the time you move to PA you will have a smooth transition. Otherwise if you wait, and then your NC is no longer valid after moving, you might end up having no license/permit at all until the PA sheriff issues yours.

However, once you move here you really should notify the issuing agent of your address change to PA so they can send you the renewal notice. When you do renew, it will be at the sheriff(or Chief of Police for Philly) of the county that you reside in regardless of where you had the original issued from.

Welcome to PA. You will find our guns laws are much easier to deal with than NC. No where near as many prohibited places in PA.

Another reason to get a PA license is to avoid the federal Guns Free School Zones Act issue. In order to carry within 1000' of a grade school you are required to have a license issued by the state containing the school. Your NC CCP won't allow to carry within 1000' of a school in PA (just as the PA LTCF won't allow you to carry within 1000' of a school in NC).

Move here first get a bunch of bills paychecks and a new pa drivers licence then apply it should only take a few weeks 45days at most. I would be concerned about the legality of the NC permit.

I would advise getting the LTCF as soon as possible. $25 buys you alot of peace of mind.

I am puzzled by your statements.

Why should he wait until he moves here?

What is your concern about the legality of a NC permit?

I thought I paid $25 in delco last year. Oh well, wouldn't be surprised if that extra $5 was just to line the pockets of good ol' mcginn or whoever answered the phone that day.

I don't mean to be exceltoexcel's mouth piece, but since NC doesn't issue non-resident licenses. The OP's license could very well become null & void upon moving out of North Carolina - just like how a NY permit becomes void upon moving from New York.
