AK side mount sight rail
I was wondering if anyone has found a well made quick detach side mount. I am looking at mounting an Eotech on a Saiga AK, and I would like an opinion from someone with hands on time with one.

Re: AK side mount sight rail
Though I don't have any personal hands on, since I sold my only ak, it appears as though the ones from Midwest Industries are pretty well made.
They quick release and come in several different types depending on your optic.
From your post, your best bet is probably going to be this one:
MI AK Railed Mount
Good luck!

Re: AK side mount sight rail
I agree with above, MI has a good reputation. I however would rethink the Eotech unless you have some hands on time with it and like it. They sit high and a cheek position is already tough with any optic on an AK, this just makes it that much harder.
You may want to look into the MI 30mm side mount and an Aimpoint PRO. a Good qualtiy optic for about the same price as the Eotech and it lower third co-witness to the iron sights.

Re: AK side mount sight rail
I like my arsenal sgl that has a UTG 5th generation quick detaching mount and a vortex Strikefire. I am very happy with my choices that did not break the bank. If you are a hardcore shooter those choices might not work for you.

Re: AK side mount sight rail
Skip the sidemounts and just go with the TWS reciever cover rail.

Or maybe consider the MI handgaurds with optic specific handgaurds
http://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/...ategory_id=449
The ones I linked above are the new modular lower handgaurds with the option to put rails where you need them or none at all if you dont. Pretty sweet.
Of course another option is the Ultimak gas tube rail
http://ultimak.com/M1-b.htm
The only nice thing IMO about the side mounts is that they are QD. But you can get QD mounts for your optic of choice and mount them that way directly to the rail on any of the options I linked. These are all better options IMO than any of the sidemounts. Personally, I wish my SGL didnt even have the side rail on it. I think receivers without them look much cleaner. Heres mine with MI/US Palm handgaurd and PA Micro

Re: AK side mount sight rail
Thanks for your comments, I think that I will go with the midwest industries rail for the aimpoint pro. I see what you guys are saying about the EoTech on an AK. I have one on an AR, but ergos are alot different.
