Re: Buying handgun online
Buy the gun
Call an FFL or gunshop that will do the transfer (call a few and get the best price)
FFL or gunshop may or may not have to fax a copy of their FFL to the seller
Tell the seller which FFL or gunshop to send the firearm to
Gun gets shipped to FFL or gunshop
FFL or gunshop calls you and tells you your gun has arrived
Go to the FFL or gunshop, fill out the paperwork, do the background check, pay the fee, leave with your gun

Re: Buying handgun online
While you are calling these shops, why not check and see if they have a 26 in stock for a similar price? Depending on shipping ($20-50) then transfer ($20-50) you may be better of buying local or close enough that it is not worth the hassle. And you are supporting your local economy.
In my line of work I get very frustrated when people buy shit online because "it was easier" or whatever and then come in to my store to have me answer all of their questions when they never even gave me a chance at their business.

BOOM! Right here^^^
My preferred LGS will usually be within $10 to $30 of a internet advertised price and, since I shop there frequently, I have gotten quite a few deals on stuff I just happen to want in their case. They know my face and know I will be back so "losing" ten or twenty bucks on a "deal" can/is/might be easier for them.
Do whats right for you, but having a relationship with a local shop is a huge win/win.Last edited by FLICK; March 3rd, 2012 at 10:51 AM.

Indeed, check locakly first. You could potentially be adding $50-100 to your online price with shipping/insurance/transfer fees, plus the wait time. Might be worth it just to pay a littke extra at your local shop and start building a relationship with a local business.

Re: Buying handgun online
unless you're getting a killer deal on a NIB glock your best bet is to buy the gun from a local shop. most shops in my area carry glocks for about 550 bucks +/- a few dollars. since you're in philly you can drive to surplus city, tanners or classic pistol and buy a glock for a good price and not have to worry about shipping and transfer fees. depending on where you live in philly all three shops i mentioned are 30-60 minutes from anywhere in the city. even if you bought a new glock on line for 400 after you pay shipping and transfer fees you're goinng to be right at or above what you would pay at a local shop plus buying locally you get to handle your purchase first before laying out your cash.

Re: Buying handgun online
Let's do some math...
GUNSTORE IN PHILTHY:
glock = 550
transfer = free (unless your shop sucks balls)
tax @6% = 33
-------outthedoor---------
$583
INTERNETS:
glock = 500
transfer = 25 (20 at a good place, do some research)
shipping = 35 (average for a pistol, low = 20 / high = 40)
-------outthedoor---------
$560
That's not too far off of the mark for an internet/LGS example. The above example is only $23 saved... depending on the effort it might be worth the good karma with your LGS. The reason I've bought my last few guns online is supply. The guns I wanted weren't in local stores. Plus I fucking hate paying sales tax. And I have a super awesome convenient FFL I can use. Bottom line: if you have a good LGS that carries what you want and doesn't rape you on pricing, go there. If you don't, learn2internet.It has to start someplace... It has to start sometime...
