Default What is my handgun worth to the dealer?

I don't know much about buying and selling firearms.

I purchased a new Walther PPS 9mm for $600 two months ago. Shot 200 rds and found that it is too small for my hands. (I think I'd rather have a Glock 19). To keep the transaction as safe as possible, I was going to ask the dealer to purchase it back - as they purchase used guns.

What should I expect as a price? Firearm is immaculate and I have all the boxes/paperwork/etc. Reason I ask is that this Dealer is 70 miles away from my house.

I have found that a dealer will buy used guns at half to two thirds their value. You might be able to consign it at a dealer and they will take 10-20% off the purchase price as a consignment fee. Therefore you get a little more for your gun.

I think you should sell it privately, you will probably get the best price that way.

    Default To answer your question.........

..........not much. Like someone said before 1/2 to 2/3. Expect closer to half. A guy I used to deal with regularly said that used guns and trade-ins were more his bread and butter than new. Put it in the classifieds here. Don't expect to get what you paid. Fairly new used firearm is like a fairly new used car. Loses value as soon as it leaves the lot. Only old classics retain and gain.

I'll bet $325-350 if they know you. As everyone stated, sell it privately here on the forums. Be patient and you'll make more $$$.

Also, Buds has the for $508 shipped. Looks like you need a new dealer.....

I agree your best option is to sell it outright via this forum or the Walther forum. You will get a fairer price by far. Nothing against the gun shops as they need to make $ too.

1/2 of what its worth about IMO if he says $300 consider yourself lucky....even then he will act like YOU are the one getting the great deal and raking him over the coals lol...He will talk about overhead and cleaning and reconditioning it and the great "loss" he will have to endure...so funny listening to gun dealers cry the blues about giving you 1/2 the $$ you paid and when its all said and done for almost little to no $$ out of their pocket will make $200+ off you lol...

Unless a gun is a limited edition or some rare breed - you'll likely get 1/3 to 2/3 the used gun price on any sale to a FFL.

$300 to $350 is probably the best you'll get. I wouldn't put it past the dealer to only want to pay $225 to $250 for it. The dealer has to sell it to recoup his investment.

If you want to make the most money - sell privately.
