Vulcan 50 rifles, $1900 and from what I hear, they aren't allowed on the range at most long range shooting events.

Safety Harbor Firearms makes very reasonably priced 50's.

    http://www.safetyharborfirearms.com/

I'm a dealer for them and I've owned/fired/played with all of their stuff. Really cool and innovative products. They make a nice AOW/SBS as well.

SHTF AR-15 50BMG uppers are about $1550 and are wayyyy better quality than Vulcan, Hesse, etc. They also make a mag fed version which is really neat.

I currently have a 29" SHTF 50 upper on a Spike's lower with a Magpul PRS, Accushort Monopod, Versapod Bipod, topped with a SuperSniper 10x scope. Nice little shooter, check them out guys.

    Here's a couple.

I know machining and materials costs money, but who would want a 50 cal for $700 just for the hell of it? Just something on my mind
A couple of years ago I heard something about a .50 Beowulf round designed with standard sized ARs in mind, I had seen it on OLN at the time (now VS network).

Keep in mind not all .50's are BMG, blackpowder is something completely different. I've seen BMG. 50s sold for almost $5 each in some places. Not to mention that's a lot of power to be trusting some bargain basement rifle with.

The .50 Beowulf is a lot more prevelant now as well. It still suffers from some of the supply issues of Alexander Arms however. It's a pretty cool round for AR-15's shooting 300-600 grain projectiles out of a standard AR which gets you upwards of 3,500-4,000ft/lbs.

Rounds are about $1 a piece or so. You can get BMG rounds in 100 round bulk for $2.50 a piece or less. None of the 50's are guns you exactly shoot a ton. The wulf is also pretty easy to reload if you're into that.

There's also 500 whisper and all kinds of 'un-licensed' 50 cal round based off the Beowulf. King Armory was supposed to be making a '50 Viking' which was an exact copy of the wulf, but with more affordable barrels, mags, and ammo, but we haven't seen anything much yet.

    50's are funnnn. =)

I know it's an old thread but since it's been revived it sparked something that I thought I had heard that the ATF pulled

I was able to find it in case anybody stumbles onto this thread. Damn shame anyway. I would have liked to have had one.

Have you looked into buying ammo for one of them?
