Let's play a game. How would YOU spend my tax refund?
Here's the deal guys. My tax refund this year is $1717.
I don't need to pay off any debts or anything, nor do I need to put this money away for savings. Therefore, I'm spending it on guns. I'll list what I have already, and what I want to have. If it were you, what specific models would you buy with the $1717?
What I have:
Springfield XD9 Subcompact
Taurus 24/7 PRO .45ACP
Taurus 24/7 PRO .40 S&W
Ruger Mark III Hunter .22LR pistol
Glock 19
What I want:
- 1911 in either .45 ACP or 9mm for IDPA/USPSA for shooting
- Compact/slim single stack 9mm (preferably 1911 style) for a light clothing CCW
- Home defense shotgun
- Revolver with a 6" barrel for target shooting
- Snub nose revolver for my fiancee. This would be her CCW. She's a fairly small-framed woman, so the lightest caliber/lightest recoil option that would still have adequate stopping power.
Now OBVIOUSLY I don't expect to buy all of these guns with $1700. The question is what combination of guns you would get FIRST on that budget, specific models.
Thanks for playing!

I don' t know about your other choices but for IDPA shooting I would highly recommend the Sig 226 X-Five Competition pistol awesome balance and it feels like an extension of your hand. Extended mag release, extended mag well. This one is a real tack driver.
I am picking one up real soon !!!!!"The Past is The Past Unless You Live In It"

Ruger GP161 (38spl for targets...pop in the 357mags for bigger stuff). KGP161 if you prefer stainless.
Wilson #SSTD-A Tactical Shotgun Standard Model w/Armor-Tuff finish.
That should take care of your tax refund instantly!

It looks like you have a serious shortage of long guns there. I would say now would be the time to jump in that pool.......

Damn, I just noticed you want all three for $1,700. That will be tough. You can get a Sig P226 9mm for about 800.00 or used for $450.00 You can find nice used Springfield 1911's for about $599.. A used Smith and Wesson 357 magnum revolver for about 350.00
That's my combo, but a Mossberg shotgun would likely replace the 357.
Good Luck, your making me think about what I want to do with my Tax Return !!"The Past is The Past Unless You Live In It"

well... if you want a home defense shotgun you could pick up a used Mossberg 500 and put pistol grip and 18 inch barrel on it, then also pick up a kimber 1911. with all said and done you could still have some money for ammo and hard cases for both...
the fiance can use her tax return for her pistol... lol j/kThis Space For Rent

You don't have a wheel gun or shotty in your collection so ......
I'd get the HD shotty - either a Mossberg 590 or a Remington 870.
That'll run you in the area of $450.00 and you need one of them.
Next I'd go for the 6" wheel gun - probably a S&W, maybe a 686. I'd go used for that (without the lock). You can probably find a nice one in the $400-$450 range.
I'd go for an IDPA gun next, but I'd get a Sig P226 9mm. You can get a new one in the $700.00 range, or go for a used one in the $450-$500 range.
Spend whatever you have left on 9mm ammo.
Teach the GF to shoot the sub-compact XD9.
She'd probably do better with it than a snubby. Snubbys are hard for newer shooters to master, and 38spl ammo is getting expensive.
Bye for a while, guard the fort. - My Dad
