Is there a nice Double action 22. Revolver?
Im new to revolvers(and new to this site), but I am planning to buy one in 22. cal within the next few months. I want to be sure to buy something nice(but under $550) I dont mind buying used or new as long as price is right.
I like the look of the Rugers, but I did not see any Double action in 22 cal.
I saw a bunch in Single action. Why is this? Why so few in DA?
Any info or advice would be appreciated.
Thanx Isaac

Re: Is there a nice Double action 22. Revolver?
In that price range, your choices are limited. You might find a used S&W at top of your range, probably your best bet. There is also the Taurus model 94 you could get new. A used revolver in .22lr wil never be whooped, IMO. I'm sure some troll will come in to cast expursions on that, but its highly unlikely.
Why so few DA .22's? If you think what the purpose of DA is, a .22lr doesn't really fit the need for it as it is mainly used target shooting, or careful aiming of small game shooting which both would best be in SA.

Re: Is there a nice Double action 22. Revolver?
Smith and Wesson makes a number of very nice DA .22 revolvers, but not too many are going to be in your price range. The older 17s, 18s, and K22s are going through the roof for price right now, even assuming you can find one. The newer 317s and 617s are even more expensive. They are making a retro 17, but I didn't think it was nearly as smooth. The Taurus 94 has been mentioned. I owned one years ago, and it was okay, but nothing like a Smith and Wesson for smooth.

Ruger made their SP101 in .22 for awhile. Collectable status has made the price on them rather high. Have one, built very heavy duty, stock trigger not as smooth as the older S&W's in my opinion.
It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.

Re: Is there a nice Double action 22. Revolver?
Rugers making the SP101 in .22 again. I've felt one up at a not so local store and it seemed very nice and very Ruger, but I have my heart set on a 6 inch S&W.......

But saving for this! Around $700 street price for a .22 is scrambling my brain, but it should last forever.......

Re: Is there a nice Double action 22. Revolver?
Taurus offers the Model 94 in a 4" and a 2" snubby. Charter Arms also has a .22LR (as well as a .22WMR, which Taurus also offers). The Charter Arms Pathfinder sells for around $375 and is probably a better gun, but the Taurus is cheaper and holds nine rounds.

The Charters are all stainless. Taurus offers the Model 94 in blue.Last edited by Greywolf; February 12th, 2012 at 11:35 AM.

Re: Is there a nice Double action 22. Revolver?
My picks in new guns would be the new Ruger SP101 in .22 LR or the S&W 317.
I'm also very curious about these new Czechpoint revolvers: http://www.czechpoint-usa.com/products/revolvers/22-lr/ If the quality is typical Czech, they should be a contender.

I like S&W's. If you shop around you may be able to find a good model 17 in your price range. One that has not been mentioned is a model 63. These are on the smaller J frame and nice used ones can be found in your price range. I actually prefer my 63 over my 17 as a general all around gun. It's a much smaller and lighter package to carry around.
