A good day for the most, until I turned around to see a recently arrived newcomer. Where'd he go? Oh, there he is...gathering up my brass as it hits the ground, fiendishly. "picking up my brass for me?" "oh, were you saving it?".... This question should have been asked PRIOR to scrounging my brass.

As you were packing up to leave, the couple that were setting up. They weren't rude or anything, just presumptuous initially. I always wait till ppl are finished shooting, ask if they save their brass, then scrounge like a fiend.

I'll be there today with my son and a few friends, handguns first then on to rifle range.

I'm going to take the plunge and join. Can I get someone to "recommend" me? The only problem is that I work on Wed. nights and can't make a meeting. Is there a way around this?

You can write my name in if you want (will send you a pm) but it is not really needed. I dont know if there is a workaround for not being able to make the meeting. Names are called and the prospective member has to stand and state their name. Not really sure what happens if a name is called and the person isn't there.
If you can make it over there on a Monday afternoon/evening the trap shoot will be in effect and there is invariably a board member or three in attendance, almost always (every time I've been there) the new club President is there also. They should be able to offer more assistance. All are approachable and will assist where possible.

Gonna try to get out on Monday with my "new" Remington 870. Never shot a shotgun before, but if folks are there to assist, I'll give it a go.

Did the one guest per visit rule change? I was hoping to take a couple buddies to try to get them to join, but I wanted to remain within the rules.
