Any Interest in a battle rifle match?
I'm thinking of adding a traditional "battle rifle" match to the lineup of practical matches at New Holland Rifle & Pistol Club.
A traditional battle rifle would be defined as a semi-auto rifle with iron sights in either .308, 30-06, or other military caliber. No bipod.
Examples:
M1 Garand
FAL
M1-A / M1-A socom
HK91
FN SCAR 17
etc.
Course of fire will emphasize marksmanship and handling skills, and include distances from CQB to 500 Yards (only a couple shots on IDPA steel will be long ones), and incorporate traditional position shooting, moving targets, pop-ups, and 2 CQB stages. We may even sell spotted shots on paper for $5.00 for three shots (support the club!) at each distance.
We would let guns with optics still shoot the match but put them in their own categories (dot, magnified, etc). We're looking for battle rifles here, not guns with big scopes set up for DMR/SDM or precision use. If there are spaces left, any other rifle is of course welcome to join us for fun.
Post if you would be interested in something like this.

Have you seen this thread?

Archie Bunker: "would it make you feel better, little girl, if they was pushed outta windows?"

for sure man. i intend on shooting in langhorne's ww2 match. i have a fondness for battle rifles and love the m-1.
what about the ar/ak? while not a traditional battle rifle caliber, they're certainly military calibers.

Re: Any Interest in a battle rifle match?
We just ran an all Kalashnikov match in December.
7.62x39, 5.45 and 5.56 are more mid-caliber rounds. Mostly looking for full power 308's and 30-06's in this one.
Anybody can shoot anything just like usual, but I like to have some special invitations to celebrate certain kinds of firearms once in a while.

Re: Any Interest in a battle rifle match?
This sound very interesting. however, there might be problems with mags. It will be hard to run M1s against AR10s. My M1 is dry after 8 and the reload is bit dicey, the AR 10 holds 20 and reloads are a breeze. So any longer CQB scenario is going to heavily favor mag fed rifles over the en blocks.
Still sounds too good not to work out the details on.

Re: Any Interest in a battle rifle match?
well hey if you bring an ancient platform to a modern battle rifle you lower your chance of winning. but it's about fun, right?
i'd bring my m-1 only because its the only battle rifle i have. and it sure is fun to use!

Re: Any Interest in a battle rifle match?
Definitely interested in a battle rifle match.
Except I don't have one.
Will bring the 20" A1/2/4 M4 bastard hybrid mutt if allowed.
Still think you need to make us do jumping jacks or run for at least 2 minutes immediately before our turn though. Jumping jacks would be good because one would still be right where they need to be at the start position while on deck.
