J Nowotny rifle information
I have the chance to pick up an antique j nowotny single shot, rifle. I cannot find any info on these. The rifle is in nra good to very good condition and was made in the 1840s according to the gentleman. Light patina all over with no real pitting and it says cal 8 on thebarrel and receiver.
Any idea on approximate value would be appreciated.“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, — go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!” ~Samuel Adams
You cannot invade America. There is a rifle behind every blade of grass.” ~ Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto

Re: J Nowotny rifle information
I'd go to the forum over at antiqueguns.com (http://www.antiqueguns.com/phorum/list.php?6) and post your request to a gentleman by the name of Bill Curtis. He's in the UK and has forgotten more than I'll ever know about European arms (There was a J Nowotny who was a notable gunmaker in Prague in the mid to late 1800s).
Edited to add that Bill will want pictures.Last edited by shiloh; February 2nd, 2012 at 04:53 PM. Reason: to add info
