Default moving from NJ to NY

A friend of mine is moving to New York City from NJ. He owns a handgun and shotgun both legally purchased in NJ. Aside from the traveling issue, what does he need to do to legally possess the weapons in his New York City Home, or where can he look for answers? Thanks in advance for any help.

Well there are a few NYC members here, so hopefully they will be able to help.

Honestly though I'm not sure any firearms can be brought to NYC without a permit. I believe I read on a NYS forum that a license is needed to purchase and possess any firearm in NYC.

God's country is correct. I've been reading a lot about this since i will be moving to NYC with my girlfriend sometime next year.

The links below is where i found most of my info. Just a heads up, a lot of it is very confusing.

I still need to do a bunch of research before i can wrap my head around some of the particulars.

Lol, I can sympathize only, I just looked at them briefly, my friend will have to do the heavy reading. I noticed that the fees are kinda outrageous too.

Yes, the fees are out of control. It's also terrible because the state max for those same fees is like $5 and $10, but the city doesn't have to adhere to those rules.

He'll need a permit for the shotgun and pistol from NYC. He cannot even possess them in the city without those permits.

Also, the guns must be New York Assault Weapon compliant. No mag's with capacity more than 10rds and there are a few other rules.

Not sure about NYC, but you have to have references in NY to get a pistol permit that have known you for a certain amount of time.

As a gun owner, it seems like you are moving from Soviet Russia to Soviet Ukraine....
