Got out to PMSC today for the 4 hours my wife tells me to get the fuck out of the house. Works for me.
I only ran 2 rifles. The new Tikka in .300 winmag which I'm working up a load and may stay with the 165 gr Nosler Accubonds which I have a couple hundred of.

I got new brass so will get into seeing if a load around that will duplicate.

    I also took my PA10 in .308.

I had some milsurp 1975 Indian OFV so started at 10% lower and ran a few strings.

I had some factory Federals 168 matchkings and ran them out at 200.

Was a good day. Much better than working in that shit.

Went shooting yesterday morning with Pennlineman and JDA58 at PMSC. Great weather, and the club was busy. What ammo shortage?

Funny how most of this thread is at PMSC. It should be the official range of Poofa.

It was a few days ago but at PMSC's 50 yard rifle range.

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 years ago, I bought my first rifle from Springfield Sporters on rt 422.
I never shot a deer with it but my BIL borrowed it and did connect with a deer.
It is a 1924 Spanish Oviedo (1916 short barreled version of the 1893) chambered in 7mm Mauser.
At that time, I had no idea what to look for in a used rifle and bought it kind of on the spur of the moment ( I think I paid $26 )while looking through their inventory.

The following few years had me buy a Remington 760 pump in 30.06 so this old girl went into the back of the safe hardly ever seeing the light of day.

I took it out a year or so ago and thought I'd like to hunt a deer with it in Old Mans rifle doe season.
I had a couple partial boxes of 7mm 175 gr bullets but couldnt hit anything ( combination eye sight, poor irons and junk rifle ).
I remembered not being able to clean the rifle very well which was probably due to the inside of the barrel looking like a sewer pipe.

Since I cant see irons, I got a cheap scout scope setup to try to marginally be proficient with it out to 100 yds.
I think the scope and rings were $75 and the rail was maybe 40.

    2021-08-05_03-43-39 by poofy27, on Flickr

OK. a friend was selling off his neighbors uncles stuff and had 300 175gr 7mm spitzers which I took. Sierra gamekings and Hornady ?
I had about 150 cases 20 of which were MIlsurp Berdans and the rest were cases given to me by my BIL who did shoot the rifle quite a bit.

I got a Lee collet neck sizer and seating die set and was set.
I wasn't sure what powder so got online on a few forums and saw I had 5 powders.
Since the rifle is almost 100 YO, I was a bit nervous but thought I remembered the guy at SS saying they checked the headspace on the milsurps.

I started VERY conservatively on powder charges.
The 1893 shot a 173 grain round nosed bullet at 2400 IIRC.
I figured I would start low and work a few combinations using IMR 4064, IMR 7828SSC, Varget, H100V and H1000.
I loaded 3 rounds of each powder jumping 1/2gr increments

I ranged around low 1800s to just over 2000 fps on my chrono.
Varget gave me the best groups but nothing to be thrilled about. Once again I'll probly be in 75 yard territory.

I also ran a few of the factory 140's I had and the few remaining 175's in Rem and Win. The 140s were up around 2400.

    2021-08-03_10-34-13 by poofy27, on Flickr

Now, I noticed the primers push back a bit, did some research and found it could be the lower charge I was using or a headspace issue.

Today, I loaded some more and bumped the charges up in 1/2 grain bumps looking to see if I can top out about 2200 ( 97 YO small ring mauser ) and see if anything will group better with more speed.

I've loaded about 75 of the 300 bullets I got but think my quest to shoot a deer with this rifle will end up with this as a wall hanger.

Next up will be the Spanish FR8 and Indian Ishapore 2A1.

In addition, I took my Ruger Redhawk. I had a diversified multitude of different rounds loaded with W296 24.0 and 24.7 gr ( old data from Speer since reduced to 24.0). I only shot 10 rounds when I got the call about my cat needing to be put down.
I shot with the sandbag under the butt of the pistol but the irons are still tough.
    2021-08-05_03-44-10 by poofy27, on Flickr

Not very good at 50 but I think it'll come back a bit with another few hundred rounds . Ha.

I still ahve to tweak the Tikka .300 winmag at 200 and zero the new Leupold on my Savage.

Finally got out to PMSC yesterday.
Nice. Low temps. Only a few like minded souls out there.
Heard some full auto up in the pistol bays. Not sure if there was some kind of event going on but didn't think it was permitted without approval.

Anyway, got to the 50 yard range. This was to run some loads for my 1924 dated 7mm 1916 rifle and saw I had forgotten to pick up that ammo can.

Lucky for me. I had a Ruger RedHawk and a Spanish FR8 to shoot at that range.
I was shooting up some really old reloads in the Redhawk and had 2 case failures.
    2021-09-03_08-10-11 by poofy27, on Flickr

The FR8 was shooting really high with a new load 150gr Hornady 3031 Interlocks over 40.0 grs of BL-C(2)

So, I looked for the sight tool in my clean kit and couldn't find it. Well, it means I'll have to load more and try again.
Later, I found it in the tube used to mount the bayo. I forgot I stuck it in there.

Moved over to the 100 yard range and had quite a few loads ready for the Tikka T3x in .300 WinMag.

I was gifted a box of Hammer Hunters 166gr and was wanting to run them. I did a ladder loading (14 rounds) using RL23 from 73.5gr through 77.4 gr. Now, with the sun out and quite bright, the chrono only read the middle 4 and the last shot ( last shot was at 3115fps.
I listed the shots and had a few that were 1/4" and 3/8" from shot to shot at 100 yards so believe I'll focus on that range and work .2 grain increments instead of .3gr.

    2021-09-03_08-07-55 by poofy27, on Flickr

I had other loads read as well since I got 3 lbs of A4350.

I did essentially another ladder test with that powder and 165 Accubonds but I loaded 2 rounds each to see how they would group as well as chrono.
I loaded 10 rounds from 67.1 gr through 69.8 gr.
The chrono worked for this double string. I was kind of surprised at the lower velocity which ranged from 2604 through 2824 with best 2 shot groups on the upper end.

All in all a great range day. 50 rounds of .300 winmag was a bit much even with a pad.

Now, dammit, I'll have to load more so I can shoot more. At 200 to figure which combo I'll settle with then 300 which is my clubs limit. a buddy keeps saying his friend has a farm in Greene Co that they shoot to 500 so I'd really like to have a go out there.

Cant wait to run the 7mm Mauser now. Ha.

    DeJa vu all over again.

Went to the range again today.
I ran the Spanish FR8 today and made some adjustments to the front sight after finding the adjustment tool in the hollow bayo mount tube.
I shot at 50 yards and just cant see the front sight clearly. I actually see a double peep and a double front sight so It takes a bit to figure which one I should be looking at.
    2021-09-04_07-56-30 by poofy27, on Flickr

I had 20 rounds loaded so took a few to get somewhat close and a few more adjustments giving me this.

    2021-09-04_07-56-51 by poofy27, on Flickr

Since I'm using milsurp cases, I cut back on powder by 10% to 40.0 gr of BLC(2).

Ill load more, jack the load a bit and run again before tweaking the front sight for zero.

In addition, I ran the Spanish 7mm small ring Mauser and had some loads with Varget 7828 and H100V.
Nothing definite yet but one loading looked interesting. I'll focus aroumd that load to see if I can up with something consistant.

Since I'm apparently the only one on this forum shooting, I had a great but hot range day at PMSC.

I ran my Tikka T3X in .300 winmag and My 1924 dated Spanish 1916 Oviedo 7 Mm Mauser.

    The Tikka.
I'm working 2 loads. I was gifted a box of Hammer Hunter bullets in 166gr and filled the case with RL23 to got in the neighborhood of 3100FPS and got this on the last 3 round group.

I had been starting to work a load with A4350 since I couldn't get IMR4350 and these are pretty close on the burn chart.
    I'm using 165 gr Accubonds.

I ran a double ladder for velocity and the reason for the double was to see how a couple grouped at certain speeds.

Not too shabby and I'll concentrate on the load in this area.

    2021-09-20_08-49-36 by poofy27, on Flickr

The 1924 7mm target looked like a shotgun hit it at 100 yards although a couple loads were in the 4 to 5 inch groups.

The factory 140s actually did better that the 175 loads so if I cant get something decent at 2200 to 2400 fps, I may revert to the factory Remingtons I have left.
The inside of that barrel looks like a sewer pipe so I'm not really surprised and the forward mounted cheap ass 2X7 X32 probaly isnt helping but I suppose it's marginally better than throwing bricks.
My goal with this rifle is to get a deer and hang it on my wall unless in a couple years, I try for a deer on its 100th birthday year.

    Anyway, I should shoot more.
Since the PGC will now allow straight walled cartridges in special regs areas, I was kicking around getting the 7 1/2" Ruger Redhawk barrel dovetailed for a scope mount instead of a no drill mount. Just kicking it around. Send it to Ruger, let a local machinist / gunsmith do it. Just not sure on this yet.

The crossbow is dead nuts at 45 and I'm looking for this guy ( well one of the guys).

The one side is deformed like the 14 point I got 2 years ago. Same side. Maybe chance that this got broke off early or genetic.

Ok, Lets get back to VAXX.
I can't wait to get my booster and I'll follow up with a Flu shot

Took one of the granddaughters to the range on Saturday for the first time. She just went through Hunter Ed and is exited to go deer hunting this season.

Started off with the Marlin 25, then quickly progressed up through the Marlin 336, Ruger 77 .308. Remington 760 .25-06, AR 10.5” pistol. She’s a natural.

Guess which one made the biggest smile?
