Man, What a great day to be at the range. 21 degrees, frost on the pumpkin ( well, my truck).

I was there all alone till about 11:30

I know Walleye, I take a lot of shit.

So, I bought 3 boxes of Browning 2 3/4" sabots for my Ithaca and they shot right at 4" at 100. Good enough till I buy the Rossi 92 in .44 mag tomorrow.
Since I have 300 plus rounds of .44 loaded.

I shot some of the poorly reloaded 7mm mags after dissassembly and reworking the loads with IMR4350. They all shot fine.Even the pulled primers I reused. Good thing I trust my work.

I did a ladder load for the 7mm using 131gr Hammer hunters and IMR4350. Maxed out at 2930 fps with 62.0 gr.
Shot ladder load #2 for the .300 win mag using 161 gr Hammers and also 4350. 2962 at .3 gr over max. For S& giggles, I chronoed a 166gr using RL23 @3200 so may try finding more of that.

So, satisfied with all 3 long guns but need to work on the loads that seem to have a sweet spot in velocity.

    I should shoot more.

    Oh Boy,
After way too long and having concentrated on rifles, I finally got out to PMSC for a pistol day.

    2022-03-01_10-15-39 by poofy27, on Flickr

    G17, G19, G20, G23, G32 and Kahr P9 Covert

I think it was Oct or Nov when I ran my pistols last , aside from the revolvers before deer season.

The weather was perfect, mid to high 50's, partly sunny and cloudy.

After reading the thread about a member asking for advice on his shooting, I finally got to my loading bench and loaded 50 rounds of 10mm ( AA#9 and Nosler 200gr JHP and Hornady 180 gr FMJ).

I dug out some .357 sig reloads, a few boxes of .40 180 gr alum cased, some 9mm alum and factory brass, found a half box of 10mm factory and a bunch of mags.

Since it's been a while and figured to knock off some rust from 5 yds, how better to make you feel good than almost touching the target.?

I ran 5 yds for each pistol and started remebering how much I liked it.

The 10mm at 10 yards was pure load developement. I loaded the 200 gr Noslers with 11.4, 11.9 and 12.4 gr of A#9. The 180 Hornady FMJ had 12.2, 12.6, 13.0 and 13.4 gr #9

7 loads, 7 targets. Flickr isn't loading some of my pics.

Anyway, the Nosler manual stated that 11.4 gr was the most accurate and that held true. I wanted to chrono these but the battery was dead and some dumbass must have robbed the spare for a metal detector.

I suppose Ill add some of the pics whenever Flickr decides to let thes come up.

The pistol bay I chose was 20 yards
    2022-03-01_10-15-59 by poofy27, on Flickr

from 20, The 200 gr 12.4 gr load measured about 7 inches. The 11.9 gr load measured a touch over 3 inches and the 11.4 gr was below

    2022-03-01_10-17-01 by poofy27, on Flickr

That was about 2" except for that flyer and I knew it was off as soon as I pressed that shot off.

so, all in all,I ran about 130 to 150 rounds. It was a great day to shoot. I'm pretty happy with the 200 grain Noslers and a few runs at 10 yards with the 180s

    I need to shoot more.
I wanted to see how the .40 S&W would run out of the G20 but looked at the time and traffic really sucks after 330.

52 min there ( I caught a lot of green lights). An hour and 8 min home ( I hit all reds and a bit of slow down for road work).

cant wait till Greater Pitt opens on Sat. @ 25 min

Oh heck, I wish I would have known you were there! I was shooting at the back-to-back bays. Was that you at the bay on the left just before the main bay parking lot?

I took three new guns to shoot - an 1884 Trapdoor, a Navy Arms replica 1892 levergun in 45 Colt, and a CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical. I also brought my 45 Colt Vaquero.

I didn't take any chances with the 140-yr old Trapdoor and 3 different recipes of test loads using 3 different powders. I shot the first few rounds with a benchrest and a paracord trigger pull. Luckily, it went bang, not BOOM, and I've got all my fingers LOL. It shoots 4-1/2" high at 25 yards. That makes sense, since I've heard that soldiers were told to aim at the belt buckle at 100 yards. The rear barrel band doesn't stay in place, I need to tighten that up. I love flipping the trapdoor open, the ejector still flings those cases. I've never shot anything like it, it's as much fun as I thought it would be. And I love that it's exactly the same as the 1861 Civil War musket, except for the trap door. Very cool.

The levergun shot great, with a nice smooth action, although the octagonal barrel is a little heavy.

The CZ felt great in my hand, but I didn't shoot it all that well. This paper plate was at 15 yards. I'm going to save it for comparison after I install the Cajun Gun Works trigger kit.

Today was a great day though. Hope we get more of this weather soon!

Is that the best you can do at 15 yds?

With this shooter and that gun and lead reloads on that day, yeah. Very disappointing.

    !
Yep, that was me in the bay just across from you.

    Those look like cool guns.
I think I'm going to order the Henry in .44 this week.

I think my next range trip will be to pick up my gate pass at Greater Pitt

A new silhouette target from Range Systems was placed on the 100' pistol-caliber range today. Bit of an overkill (it's 1" AR500), but it's too wet to get it out to the 300-yard range, so figured better to get some use out of it until we can get it placed where it belongs. The target itself is massively heavy, took 3 of us to assemble the target and really needed a 4th person.

Took 13 quick shots at 100' with a Glock 22 chambered in 40S&W.
