I went out today to try some reloads. I was surprised at how light the .44 Special loads were compared to the .44 Magnum and .45 Colt. Even the 4" Blackhawk is a pussycat with the .44 Specials.

I figured out the problem with the 7" Blackhawk's transfer bar the other night. The end of the base pin has a spring-loaded plunger that pushes against the transfer bar. The base pin was all fouled from gas and wasn't pushed in all the way. After cleaning the pin and pushing it in until it clicked into place, the transfer bar stopped hitting the firing pin and the gun works fine.

My first 9mm reloads didn't work out so well. They ran fine in my CM9 and P365, but totally jammed up my Canick.

I hit the rimfire range again today. The Browning lever gun is accurate enough to hit anything that I can see, no matter how small. That's the catch - being able to see the smallest targets. If I use my reading glasses, I can see the sights but not a 1" plate at 15 yards. Without the reading glasses, I can see the targets but my sights are fuzzy. Last week I was shooting my scoped Glenfield, so I could see everything. Maybe next time I'll try the 15-22 with a red dot.

There's one good thing about this range - it's motivating me to get all of my .22's sighted in better. Can't hit teeny-tiny targets if my sights are off.

I went out to PMSC yesterday and ran some rifles.

I tried some Berger 185VLDs in my .300 winmag and adjusted the bullet jump to see if closer to the lands would help accuracy,
It did not and actually, the more jump I had, the closer the groups got. Jamming the bullet and backing off a bit meant hand feeding one round at a time.
I also tried a new powder since IMR4350 is scarce now. I did find some H100V from Bass Pro and got a couple pounds

I also took my first deer rifle. An 1893 Spanish 7mm mauser I bought for $28 a couple years ago from Springfield Sporters on 422. I put a $75 scope mount, a $50 cheap 2X7 forward mounted scope and ran some 140gr Core Lockts but the rifle ran better with 175 grainers. It is minute of deer at 50. I may change the scope.

Since I was at the 50 yard range with the 1893, I took the Spanish FR8 with open sights too. Ran some 1975 Indian OFV and some Federal Matchkings.

The PA10 got a chance at 100 too. The Sierra 180 tipped gamechangers will be my hunting round whenever semis become legal ( if I'm still on the green side)

Was a little nipply but a great day to be at the range. I see the gate is actually working again too.

Pennlineman and I went shooting after he bought my Ruger 22/45 Lite. Now I see why he bought it - it's totally fun and badass with a can!

Also shot the CZ 75 D Compact PCR that I just picked up.

I did go shooting today kinda spur of the moment having looked at the forecast.

I went to PMSC and set up for everything at 100 yards.

My friend had a gun bash win HOWA bolt Hbar in ,223 that the scope was never tightened in. I took it apart, cleaned it up and reinstalled the scope.
I ran his first with some brass cased PPU and American eagle. Gun shot nice and tight groups but I didn't zero it. Just shot for group.

Next was the new Tikka T3X with my Leupold 3 X 15 VX5 HD.
I tried some new bullets. Berger VLDs in 185

New bullets and powder so I worked 7 loads. #6 with a flier and # 7 looks promising. These were .5gr apart using H100V. I'll tune that in .3 gr increments till I get something consistant and then step it at .1 gr. Target 8 was just 3 180 gr Berger Elite Hunters using RL23 so have to work loads with that bullet as well.
I didn't shoot the stepped 190 gr VLDs yet.

I had my PA10 and had a few different types of bullets I only shot 3 each but it wasnt really a load work up as much as just shooting the rifle.
I was kind of hoping maybe one combination would stand out but not really.

My Ithaca slug gun barrel loosened when I thought I was tightening it. I took it off, reinstalled it and made sure it was tight but it shot about 18 inches high so I'll need to work that sabot / scope again.

Good temp, sunshine, no precip from Polar Vortexes . A great day to be by myself at the range.

Hey scruff, you figure out what it was about the reloads jamming the canik? Got a tp9sfx myself and while I've been told they're not TERRIBLY finicky I'm always looking to increase my knowledge.

Took the new .308 out for a test drive yesterday. Shot 70 rounds with no issues. So far I’m happy with it.

Shoulda got out earlier because the range faces due west. I had to shoot with one hand and shade the scope with the other.

You might need a new tape measure, neither of those barrels look to be the full 16'.

It was newer S&W day today . My PC 327 357 mag, My PC 986 9mm and my 686 plus 357 mag.

I now remember why I hate moon clips so much - what a pita! Luckily, the 327 fired flawlessly w/o moon clips both 357 and 38 round! The 986 will not work w/o moon clips.

The 327 was flawless all around. But when done, I see weird turn lines at the front of the cylinder. Have never seen this? There does not appear to be any rubbing going on north or south of cylinder? Am I missing something or just dumb?

The 986 had issues with the first moon clip full. Cylinder would jam, etc. I was annoyed. But after those initial issues, all ran smooth the next 5 or 6 clips.

The 686 was flawless like the 327.

Smith and Wesson forum guys set me straight on the "turn lines" :

Not a turn line. Just above the forcing cone you'll see the small steel clip designed to shield the upper frame from flame cutting. What you're seeing is deposits from the gases being deflected back from the frame.
