Default "Loan" of a rifle for target shooting - Legal?

I've read thread after thread, and have read what I believe are the applicable laws but can not clearly determine the legality of this issue. Here's the scenario:

Father is a PA resident and owns a .22 rifle. Father lives about 2.5 hours from son.

Son is an adult PA resident and wants to borrow the rifle for target shooting without the father present.

Can the Father simply give the rifle to his son to use and keep until the next time they see each other? Is there an issue with the rifle staying in the son's possession for an extended period of time (approx 1 month), or is there a requirement for a formal transfer of the rifle?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Long guns in PA can be passed, sold, gifted, borrowed, whatever between PA residents. As long as the person is 18+ and not prohibited. Just hand it to him
