S&W 6906 Range Report
Buddy and I each picked up one of these Smith and Wesson 6906 that were Ex-California Dept. of Corrections Pistols. They came in great shape for $369 each. What a great gun. Surprisingly light, and very, very comfortable to shoot - the gun has very little recoil, it's pretty amazing ! Very accurate, and no issues at all. I can see why so many Police depts. use to carry them -some probably still do! If you want a really nice 9mm, go to GB or GA and look them up under Robertsontradingpost. Great guys to deal with too, and if you want, free 90 day layaway with only $ 10 shipping ! They picture each gun with mulitple pics too so you don't get whichever gun they happen to send - you can examine them all. I'm sure I picked the two best But a lot left that look pretty nice. My buddy had a good point, being Dept. of Corrections guns, they were probably kept in a locker or something and not even carried much in the Prison!
I was able to find some new 12 round original replacement S&W mags for $20 on GB and Robertson also has mec-gar 17 round one's for $29.

Re: S&W 6906 Range Report
Glad ya enjoy it. Welcome to one of the best made guns IMHO. If ya really like it try one in 45 or 10mm. Ya there a bit heavy to carry but nothing better for a range toy. They can get addicting.

Re: S&W 6906 Range Report
The 6906 is my favorite EDC gun.
FYI:
If you want an IWB holster for your 6906, order a Crossbreed SuperTuck that is marked for "S&W 5906, Mod 39, 3913, etc.". This holster fits the 6906 with either squared, or rounded trigger guard.

Very nice. I like these old Smiths alot.
Get'em while theyre hot too. These trade ins arent gonna be around forever. Especially at the prices they are going for.
OP, does yours have any DOC markings on it?

Re: S&W 6906 Range Report
It has " AOxxx " on all of them laser engraved on frame, slide and barrel which the seller says is:
"Note the neatly executed laser CDC Prefix identification numbers on the right side of the slide"
I checked it out and Ca. Dept. of Corrections did engrave all 6906's with the AOXXX laser engraving on the slides, frame and barrel. On other guns they engraved CDCxxx, not sure why they used different markings ?Last edited by cruzans; January 11th, 2012 at 08:56 PM.

Re: S&W 6906 Range Report
Thanks for the holster info. boots.
I have been told that the mec-gar 15 round mags will fit flush, and are the best besides S&W originals. Does anyone know if the mec-gar 17 round mags fit flush? I see them advertised saying they fit the 6906 but not sure if they fit flush ???

Got a 59, a 659, and a 5906. All very good 9mm's. Why Smith&Wesson quit making them, I don't know... I guess everyone wants to be made out of plastic and look like a Glock.

Re: S&W 6906 Range Report
Some of the most under rated guns out there. I got my first 3rd gen S&W last year. A 1066, it was also my first 10mm. I only wish it had not taken me this long to try them out. Since then I picked up a 559, 908 and 3904. All four of them have been flawless so far.
Congrats!

Re: S&W 6906 Range Report
I EDC'd a custom hybrid 5903/6906 for about a decade. Great weapon.
(3rd Gen Smiths are also safety laden with a drop safety, manual safety and magazine safety combined with a DA trigger).
With the full sized grip it took 17rd mecgar or 18rd ramline magazines flush. Mine was mag-na-ported with night sights, and had an action job.
I still miss that gun. I traded it for my HK P7 a couple years ago.
