Re: S&W 6906 Range Report
3rd Gen smiths, which were extremely popular and successful cop guns in their day, really do epitomize the exact opposite philosophy of the Glock.
A 3rd Gen smith is every bit as fast and easy to operate, but obviously, far more forgiving of user error and acts of stupidity. It won't eliminate them entirely, but it will eliminate all but the most egregious acts of stupidity that normally result in an ND.

I love 3rd generation S&W's...can you tell? Top left is my 645 transitional, top right my new 5906, bottom left is a 4516 and bottom right a 6906.

I've also owned a bunch of these S&Ws.
I had a 645, a 915, a 5903 and a 6906.

Re: S&W 6906 Range Report
I used a 669 and also a 5906 for work before I retired. Both were reliable and great on the range. Even though I use different carry weapons now, I would never trade or sell them. I enjoy taking them out occasionally to give them a small workout and cleaning. I never had any issues at all with them. The only thing I did maintenance wise was to replace the mag springs after 7 or 8 years, but never had a mag spring fail. I only did it as I kept all mags loaded back then (6 for each weapon).
Best of luck with your recent purchases !!!

Re: S&W 6906 Range Report
Yes, they will work. You can get 30rd mags that will work too, but they're really intended for the (edite) Marlin Camp Carbine 9mm, which is designed to work with Smith and Wesson magazines.
If you have a S&W 2nd or 3rd gen auto, a Ruger camp carbine is an excellent companion weapon to it.Last edited by Valorius; January 13th, 2012 at 01:51 PM.

Werent they Marlins ? http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marlin_Camp_Carbine
Or did Ruger make some too?
I've never gotten to fire one but they look like fun and I always kinda had one towards the bottom of my list. Would make for a nice SHTF combo with the ability to share mags and ammo caliber.Last edited by brownman; January 12th, 2012 at 10:02 PM.
