Re: Phila. Gun License Dept. Experience Today
. . . which is exactly how their boss, Commissioner Ramsey, feels about "civilians" (we used to be citizens, didn't we?) who dare to carry firearms in his city. He's a veteran of Chicago and DC, and their laws are clearly more to his (and his boss's) liking. He's said that -- in so many words -- on many occasions, including recently before a Congressional committee.

Re: Phila. Gun License Dept. Experience Today
I have nothing in my background that would prevent me from being issued a LTCF according to any state or federal firearms laws. I just foresee that Philly will somehow in their infant wisdom will fail to comply with state law and deny my application as a defacto rejection based on one (interviewing detective) individual's misinformed understanding of the law.

Re: Phila. Gun License Dept. Experience Today
just tossed a clipboard in front of me and said abruptly "HERE".
proof of residency
SS#...tells me that I must fill this in or my application can not be processed.
She then asks for my money order and photograph
"IF YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE IS SUSPENDED YOU MUST REAPPLY AFTER IT HAS BEEN REINSTATED"
She then gets into a series of questions asking if I had any tattoos or scars and where they are located
She said that she needed to know exactly.
the UFC specifically states
She told me that I must give them at least 45 days to conduct the background check and if I felt the need to obtain my "permit" sooner that I would need to come down there with my "driver's license" and pick it up.
I was then told to wait until called again to get my fingerprints taken. After a few minutes, I was finally called back to the finger printing station.
she needed my reference documents that she failed to ask for during the interview.
Fun, fun fun.

Re: Phila. Gun License Dept. Experience Today
I counted the days out and if my elementary skills are correct, I will be stopping down there again on February 20th if I do not get anything back from them via mail before that. I will wait to give them an opportunity to comply with the 45 day issue or rejection rule before I go down there and raise any kind of holy hell in the off chance they decide to use that against me in any way to profile me and deny my because of character flaws.

Re: Phila. Gun License Dept. Experience Today
I don't understand why you Philadelphians put up with this horseshit. In the amount of time it took to write your complaint here you could have filed a written complaint with the Philadephia DA with an info copy to the State Atty Gen'l.
After a number of compalints on the same subject. IF these two "worthies" don't do their jobs it will be time to throw their asses out.

Re: Phila. Gun License Dept. Experience Today
For the same reasons that its like herding cats trying to get any serious movement for reforming the gun laws in the Peoples Socialist Republic of NJ.
And yes it is infuriating as hell ! Everyone gripes and complains, but those same people cant be bothered to actually get involved, latch on like a pitbull and raise a stink. There's always some lame excuse or other for why they themselves cant be bothered to actually roll up their sleeves and take the fight to their Overlords, " I dont have time " , " its a waste, it will never change so why bother trying ", etc etc.
For the record, my mini rant is NOT in anyway directed at the OP, more at answering the question posed by Brick (and others) why we see these abuses over and over and over and over and over and over and no one actually does anything other then bitch about them amongst their friends or on the net.
There was something like 23 percent TOTAL voter turnout in NJ this past Nov in an election cycle where the entire Legislature was up for re-election. Myself and many others canvassed various gun clubs across the State trying to raise awareness of the opportunity this presented, after Heller and McDonald, and getting members fired up enough to spread the word and get to the polls. 99 percent of them either couldnt care less or didnt want to be bothered with even arranging for having someone address one of their membership meetings.
Ive been involved in the Pro 2A political movement for over ten years. Although I understand human psychology pretty well most times, it has been a continuous source of bewilderment and consternation for me trying to understand why the vast majority of gun owners are so ambivalent and laise faire' about being active in defending their rights and freedoms as vociferously as possible when those same rights and freedoms are under assault at every turn on a daily basis.Last edited by son of the revolution; January 6th, 2012 at 08:19 PM.

Re: Phila. Gun License Dept. Experience Today
I was merely pointing out that it is possible to buy a gun and be denied a LTCF, a lot of people think because they were able to buy a gun that they are guaranteed to get a LTCF. Nothing was directed at you personally, although telling the GPU about a DWI/DUI will get you looked at little harder for sure no matter where you got them.
