I have to admit, I do believe the changes are being made. The process went very smoothly and it appears as though the frequency of OC "incidents" with the PPD has drastically decreased. We're being treated with more respect, regarless of whether or not it's begrudgingly, and that's the biggest step forward. It's not perfect, but...the effort is being put into making sure that these kinds of episodes don't happen nearly as often in the future.

I'll go send that RTK request for the OC memo now - would LOVE to see it.
Make sure you post it here. I'd love to read it.

I have to say, I am pleasantly surprised by the way everything went. Obviously, I'm not some sort of appointed judge of the PPD's GPU or anything like that, and I don't have some thought in my head that I'm the person who gets to measure their progress, but I've heard and read multiple horror stories about how things have gone in the past. I just wanted to tag along to be there for a new friend, and I was plain and simple curious about the building and how they operate.

First of all, the place was PACKED. With 5 booths or so for "interviews," and seating room for between 12 and 15, the office was rather warm as well. As Kimber said, we spent some time outside in the hallway while we waited for them to call his name. That's when Lt. Lisa King came through. Oddly enough, when I put my hand out for a handshake, she came in for a hug. It was slightly awkward for a moment, but, alright. I like hugs.

We came back up after all was said and done and I asked to see, or get a copy of, that "Open Carry Memo" - the "supervisor" of the GPU at the time called for my attention by name, which was strange since I didn't give my name while I was there. I guess word spread since Lisa came out and said hello. Anyway, the supervisor told me to submit a RTK request for "Officer Assist 2011-01" - something I plan on doing this week, since I have the RTK Officer's email address already.
And the obvious question: Did you OC at the GPU?

Wanted to chime in and say kudos to you fellas for being polite and professional! And kudos to the dept for 'pleasantly' complying with the rules.

They may not like it, but at least they didn't blatantly violate them out of some personal agenda.

    Progress? Sure sounds like it!

I think a Tee shirt would be too obvious. A "Mark for President" button with his pic might be more appropriate!

Bottom line, I wanted to express my personal gratitude for the many of you who put yourselves on the front line to address these issues.

And thanks to everyone who has worked hard to see these changes implemented!

    Honor comes from within.
