A "Sort Of" Encounter at Wawa
I was picking up some coffee at Wawa, and as I left, a Crown Victoria pulled into a spot in the front lot. It was colored half and half - white from the windows up, and black from the bottom of the windows down. As I walked by, I considered asking the driver whether it was a retired PD cruiser, or a retired taxi. Just before I asked, I noticed an "I PROUDLY SUPPORT THE PHILADELPHIA POLICE" sticker on the rear window.
"All of the above, actually," he replied, "it was a police car first, then it was sold to a taxi service. Then I bought it." He then stated something we all know, that the majority of taxis are old police cruisers.
"Ah, okay...I almost didn't ask since you have that sticker in the back...that made it a bit more obvious."
"Well, that's just there to keep the cops off my back. The Philadelphia cops are not exactly friendly."
I declined to agree or disagree with that statement. I said, "I have a healthy respect for the job they do, but they're still people, and sometimes people go overboard."
"You're telling me! I'll tell you a quick story - one of my neighbors has a mentally challenged kid, and another neighbor is a raging drunk. One day the drunk yelled at the kid and the kid yelled back, but I guess he made some kind of threat or whatever. Well, the cops come to the door a while later and his mother answers, and they say, 'We want to talk to you son - he made some terroristic threats to your neighbor earlier.' So he comes to the door and they say, 'We want to talk to you,' and he replies with, 'I don't want to talk to you,' and slams the door. Know what the cops did? They kicked in the fuckin' door, busted it right off it's hinges, no warrant or anything."
I shook my head. "Can't say I'm too surprised - I've got a few stories of my own. I usually carry a firearm, and I typically do so openly when I am not working, which is perfectly legal across the state. If you go to Philly, you need a License to Carry, which I have, so it's all good. Anyway, one day I was walking three blocks from my mom's place to -"
He cut me off. "If you don't mind, can I ask you something?"
Here it comes, I thought to myself. "Sure."
"Why are you carryin' a gun?"
He said it in that tone, you know the one, where it's simply fucking ridiculous that I'd even consider it appropriate to do such a horrible thing.
"I carry for protection - there's a lot of crazy people walking around us every day. Anyway -"
He started walking away, giving me a dismissive over-the-shoulder wave. I was appalled - how rude can someone be? I mean, it's fine to have your opinions of things, but is it really necessary to be a dick about it?
"You're not going to hear the rest of my story?" I had planned on abbreviating it - a LOT - for the benefit of time.
"Nah...I, uh, I gotta go...I have a doctor's appointment..."
And into Wawa he went.
A bit later, as I was walking along the road, he drove by and gave me a double-tap of the horn and a wave. I thought about ignoring him, but I waved back anyway, half-heartedly.

Give the guy a break. He obviously knew where you were going and that you were going to one up his story with your own and didnt want to be embarrassed by being in the presence of such a famous person.

Pfft...yeah, okay, star struck by a bridge troll, right. :-p
My guess is he's anti - which is fine, I just thought it was entirely unecessary to be such a twit about it, lol.

He drives an ex police car with a sticker on it that says "I PROUDLY SUPPORT THE PHILADELPHIA POLICE".
He turned and left as soon as you said "there's alot of crazy people walking around us" because he knew you were talking about him.
I think he resembled that remark.

Anti, maybe, who knows, I know if I'm involved in a conversation with a stranger and it turns to a subject I'm not interested in I will think of an excuse to be on my way too.

Not sure what you mean, on my screen, although I do change the font and color of my own posts, the size is the same as the rest. If you mean shrunken text in something quoted within my posts it's because the focus of my reply is not on the shrunken part.
As for the rest of your reply, it doesn't matter if the guy was anti or not, he probably was, my point was it was a brief conversation among two strangers, no need to spend the rest of the day conversing if the conversation changes to something you don't have an interest in, regardless of why you're not interested.
