    It's intentional. When I say NSFL to someone who isn't yet familiar with that acronym they sometimes ask me about it, the typical conversation goes something like this:

    Stranger: NSFL? What's that?
    Me: No Such Luck.
    Stranger: What's the "F" f.o..r....OH Never mind.

    It works well just as it is. I use it in mixed company, around in-laws, at work or wherever. It seems to be safe enough. People who know me well enough don't bother to question me when they hear something out of the ordinary, (they know better), strangers either get the drift or walk away thinking I'm "not all there" or something.
