Default 870 owners, can you help?

So my brothers slug gun came apart on him in the woods. (I didn't ask for details). Anyway, he brought me his gun and said he couldn't get it back together. I took a look at it, it appeared that he was missing the bolt carrier, so I ordered one on-line.

The part came and I'm now trying to put his gun back together. However, either his rail on the pump section of his gun is wrong, or the part that was shipped to me is wrong.

I'm wondering if someone else with an 870 can take a look at theirs and let me know which it may be? I'm a Nova owner.

Here is a picture of the rail on the pump section of his 870, notice how the left hand side rail has a numb on it, this prevents the bolt carrier from seating on the rail properly.

Here are a few more photos that show the carrier not sitting properly. This is preventing me from getting the gun back together.

    Thanks for any help!

The pictures show a NEW style forend tube assembly and an Old style slide assembly. You need the new style slide assembly for your forend. (Diagram part key # 57)

Your slide rails are setup for the flextab style carrier as mentioned in the post by Rodolfo Fierro it was a improvement to help clear jams in the later models.

Thanks guys, just my luck that part is out of stock. Found some on Gun Broker.

I assume this is the newer slide assembly that I need.

The notch shown in the upper left of the photo is what you need to fit your rails.

Just an update, the new part came around Christmas, and it fit perfectly, gun was back together in less than 10 seconds.

    Now the meat and potatoes.....

How the hell did a 870 shotgun fall apart in the field?

They are the TANKS of the shotgun realm. Its one gun you buy at 18 and they bury your great grandson with it, still working fine!
I know someone here will debate that, but personally, Mines run for like 20 years without a single issue.
