Re: Ruger MK III Dissassembly/Reassembly problem
Glad to hear I'm not the only only with a "problem" field stripping a Ruger. I just bought a new Mark III 22/45 and went to disassemble it for the initial cleaning before taking it to the range. I already have a Ruger Mark III SS Hunter that I have field stripped a few times with only a few hitches, so felt fairly confident, followed the instructions to the letter I beleive, got as far as starting to take the barrel off of the base and it would not move. I hit it with a rubber mallet dozens of times and it would not budge. I will be taking it to a dealer tomorow to see if he can break it apart, just want to make sure that it isn't defective.

Re: Ruger MK III Dissassembly/Reassembly problem
If mine was any less fun to shoot it would be in a river somewhere- I can clean my AK, G19, shotty,any/all of the Mosins without complaint but that thing is a PITA!!

Re: Ruger MK III Dissassembly/Reassembly problem
When I first got my MKIII it was impossible to remove the barrel. Then someone pointed out that I had missed the step of removing the magazine.

Re: Ruger MK III Dissassembly/Reassembly problem
The magazine was out and as I said as far as I know I followed all the steps, just think that mine is one of those that may need a bigger hammer.

Re: Ruger MK III Dissassembly/Reassembly problem
Dude, in all seriousness, I SMACK the muzzle hard on my wood computer desk. Wood don't hurt metal, it looks careless as hell, but it WORKS!!
Years ago, I saved up the money for a CMP Garand. Drove out to Camp Perry and bought a nice SG Springfield. When I tried to take it apart, the fore end was stuck around the barrel. Grease dried in the slots. Called CMP armorers at Anniston, guess what they said? Hold it by the wood and SLAM the muzzle into a wood tabletop. Guess what- it worked.Don't sweat the petty stuff, and don't pet the sweaty stuff.

Re: Ruger MK III Dissassembly/Reassembly problem
Everything will fit if the hammer is big enough.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.

Re: Ruger MK III Dissassembly/Reassembly problem
I don't know, I never had a problem getting the barrel assy. off the grip frame of my MK II. Maybe it's because it's stainless steel or I'm just lucky but never had to hit it with a hammer or slam it on a block of wood. Now if you want to talk about getting the hammer strut lined up right with main spring housing when putting back together that's another story!
