    Default Pistol for the GHB

Yeah I'm one of those crazy preppers so I'm looking for a pistol for my GHB.
I'd prefer a medium to high capacity stainless or stainless/polymer pistol in 9mm. I'd like the 9 so that I can keep weight down while still carrying an ample amount of ammo.
I have a couple 1911's now so I'd prefer to stay away from striker fired pistols and keep to a similar platform, I.E. one with an external hammer.

I've shot some glocks and don't care for the triggers.(give me a minute to get the Nomex on before you glock fans start up, they aren't for everybody). Not looking for a target quality firearm, just something that I can fight my way out of a problem if I have to.
    Suggestions?

    Sig P226 or 229,
    HK P30
    Taurus 809

I have shot all of these, extensively (have shot the P229, but not as much as the others), and they are all great. The Taurus is even greater being a few skins less than the other two. All have external features with super good ergonomics and make a great anything you want pistol.
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

Don't think you can go wrong with a Sig 226. Good capacity, available in 9mm and a proven track record.

I could only find a rifle to go with your GHB.

    Beretta 92?

You can pick up the mags that the troops drop if the SHTF.

Whatever it is, make sure it is something you're use to shooting. I would duplicated your daily carry if you can.

If you carry daily, just put a holster and extra mags in the GHB. I have a thigh holster and extra mags in mine. If I have to bail, the pistol comes out of the concealment holster (since I'm putting on my pack) and into the thigh holster. The thigh holster holds two extra magazines. I now have 3 mags filled to capacity available instantly (48 rounds) with at least one extra box of ammo in my pack (another 50 rounds). Hopefully, that will get me home.

Just a question, but if its your daily carry, why duplicate it and not just use it?

Also, I'd second the Beretta 92. Magazines are fairly easily found if theres an emergency.

I'm not duplicating the pistol (course, having two pistols may not be such a bad thing (with a second thigh holster (the other leg) and 2 more mags, I know have 96 rounds at the ready. Hmmmm) Laure Croft wouldn't have anything on me then.

I am using my daily carry. I'm just trading from my concealed carry holster to a thigh holster. Since Im putting my GHB on my back, it is next to impossible to draw from my concealment holster. So, the daily carry goes into my Thigh holster.

And the Beretta 92 is a good gun. But for what a GHB is for, there won't be any magazines laying around yet. Your GHB is getting you home as soon as the SHTF. Even the military won't be out yet. But there may be in the future, so that is one thing to considered.
