    Default Springfield 1911 question

I have a loaded Springfield 1911 45 acp, I just purchased some Wilson 47D 8-round magazines. When inserting the Wilson mags they slide in fine until they hit the latching mechanism and they won't go any further unless you bump them hard or hold in the release button. Is this normal?the gun works fine with the stock Springfield mags.
    Thanks
    Steve

Does this happen with the slide locked back? Does this happen if you strip a round or two off?

It happens if the magazine is full or empty and also happens when the slide is locked back and closed

I would have to say stay with the Springfield mags in that case.

Remove the slide from the gun, install the slide stop, and insert that magazine loaded. Note whether or not the bullet touches any part of the slide stop (it should just barely clear it).

Unload the magazine and re-insert. Note where the follower of the empty magazine pushes up on the slide stop and compare it to a known good one.

I have the same thing with my Springfield loaded. I spoke to Springfield and they told me the Wilson mags are some times a bit tight untill they wear in.

The mag catch spring probably just needs a little breaking in. I use 47DAB's ( 8rd, .350 bases, black) in my TRP and they work quite well.

All of my Springfield Armory 1911's (3) did this with Wilson, Tripp, CMI and Metalform magazines until the gun was broken in some. One of them still does it.
