Local Police Check Card? (montgomery county)
I'm planning on heading into Norristown to get my LTCF in the near future, and checked out the Sheriff's website to make sure I have everything I need so i only have to go once. It references an ID and references...no problem there. Then it states
"The Local Police check card must be signed by your local Police Department. This applies to new applicants only. The Local Police check card is only valid for 60 days from date of signature by Police Department."
Is this something I need to go to my local PD for, or is there a form I need to get from the Sheriff first, bring to my local PD, and then bring back? Thanks in advance for your help!

It's something you don't have to do at all
Tell the sheriff to do his own job

they don't charge for the local check, well they didn't when i decided to get my ltcf back and you can get the forms off the internet if you want.
tell the pd that you'll be out of town for the next 2wks and see if they run your name and sign off on it so you can walk around the corner and your ltcf

Re: Local Police Check Card? (montgomery county)
Quite honestly, I'm not interested in doing anything to either put the approval of the license in jeopardy or delay it. I don't have the resources to bring it to a lawsuit, and I don't have the available time off from work to make multiple trips.
I figured it was something that was an unlawful requirement. Unfortunately we don't really have a local PD, our area is patrolled by state police. I'll just give a call down to the barracks and get some guidance from them. Thanks for the information!

Live in Worcestor...no local police to check with.
"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom ... go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels nor arms. May your chains set lightly upon you and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." Samuel Adams

Not that I agree with the sheriff doing this and I don't think you should give in so easily... but to help you out, here is the check card form you need:

Hopefully....when you bring it up to the SP they say
"this isn't part of the process. Let me take a look into this."

Re: Local Police Check Card? (montgomery county)
Sure there is: the State Police barracks in Skippack.
To the original poster:
Seeing how you want the least amount of ass-ache, just fill it out and give it to the State Police in Skippack, on 113, up the street from WaWa.
Ask if you can wait for it to be run, then take it to Norristown with you.
If they can't run it on the spot, ask them if THEY'LL be taking it to Norristown for you.
I did.
When I got to the sheriff's office, he asked me why I had the State Police deliver it with their daily deliveries.
I replied "yeah, it's pretty sad that the PA State Police have to both do your job AND deliver your paperwork for you, isn't it?"
