    Default New Russian Makarov

My new Makarov! It'll make a nice concealed carry piece, easier than my 1911s, anyway. It's a Russian Makarov built at the Imez factory, model IJ70-18AH chambered in 9x18 with doublestack mags, just about perfect condition:

Nice, what's the magazine capacity and the price of the pistol?

    Congrats on the acquisition!

Be careful when adjusting the elevation screw, the screw shank diameter is very small and the screw is prone to breakage. Replacements are unobtanium, AFKIK.

Also, genuine Russian-made 12-rd Makarov high-cap mags have a white or off-white follower and a grayish mag body. Accept no substitutes.

You gotta love Makarov's just plain good fun. In fact I have not yet owned a 9x18 mm pistol period that I did not like whether it was a mak or mak wannabe. My favorite carry is my polish P64 a mak wannabe. I need to add an east german one to my collection have a blast with yours.

The original mags are tough to locate, I got a couple of ten shot aftermarket mags that I bought- {pro mags I think] from keep shooting.com. I replaced the sights on my russian hi-cap with some from a link that I found off the old makarov .com site . There is a company that makes stuff for Cz 52's and maks listed there. The sights are a big improvement over the flimsy factory sights.

Lol, the thread title had me thinking someone had designed a new iteration of the Mak. New to you though, I see.

Noah, actually, in light of this, while the model number seems to designate a high capacity Makarov, I'm pretty sure the magazine itself is only a ten rounder. The follower is black, and I sure as hell can't press more than ten rounds into it, anyway.

A link I found has the high cap mags for only (holy shit) $80.00! At that price, I'll stick to ten rounders.

Are the magazines for .380 the same as those for 9x18? I've seen several websites that suggest that they are, but I wanted some sort of confirmation with someone who'd know.

I was sort of present at the creation for the whole Makarov thing back in the late 80s and throughout the 90s. Mags for hi-cap Maks came in two flavors, 10 rd and 12 rd. The original hi-cap mag was 12 rd, but because the 94-04 ban was still in effect Imez made mags in 10 rd capacity so that the pistols could be sold in the US. Then they or the importers dumped a quantity of so-called at the time "preban" 12 rd hi-cap mags on the market which were quickly snatched up. Five or six years ago it was not uncommon to see genuine Russian 12-rd Mak mags priced and selling at $40-$50 apiece.

At one point in the 1990s the Makarov was like the SKS or Laz potato chip nobody could have just one. It was a rugged and reliable gun that was very reasonably priced, that worked well.

I never joined the ban wagon because I didn't have the right reloading dies and didn't want to buy any for ammo slower then 9mm.

The Makarov is a amazing piece of simple engineering almost the Ak 47 of the pistol world.
