    Default Question about chambered rounds

It's it bad, as in stressful to components, to have a round chambered for an extended amount of time? I keep my xd chambered and loaded 24/7 and u don't get to the range as much as I would like to.

No problem, no stress on the gun or round
I do the same thing with my XD's

Rechambering the same round over and over might be an issue though

I do the same thing, always chambered.

Once a week I wipe downd my carry piece (external) Once a month I do a complete cleaning. At that time I empty the mag and clean it. I also wipe down and rotate the bullets before reloading

Every gun and magazine i own is left fully loaded, even in the safe. It's not an issue.

Other than on cleaning days my duty pistol remains loaded in the safe. Our armorer has some realy great examples of rounds where the re-chambering of the round over and over will compact the round which could cause either a feed issue or worse.

You wipe down the rounds in the mag as in using an oily rag on them?

Not something I would suggest especially on a gun I may potentially need to save a life with, I like to keep oils away from my primers and powder.

To the OP, I'll parrot the others, you are good to go on a chambered round with one exception, (and this is just my opinion), there are some US manufacturers using steel cases now for HP loads, I personally wouldn't leave a steel cased round in my gun for long periods of time especially if I were carrying it outside and then back inside causing a change in temp and humidity. Probably not an issue, but still something I wouldn't trust my life with.

Like 9mm vs 45, or OC vs CC, it can make for some interesting reading.

Here's a few threads about chambered or non chambered guns.
I appreciate the links, but my question was referring the duration of a chambered round and the stress it may have on internal components.
