Re: Any S&W 500 Owners Out There?
Heh, heh, heh. True, that. Got one 300 Win mag left in the mag dept. Got too good a deal on it to ever let it go. My best friend uses his 7mm for everything out West. Never takes anything larger, anymore. He has forgotten more about guns than I'll ever know and he says the same thing.
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

How is the recoil difference between the big guy and the little 2-3" barrel?

Big difference, even with the ported barrel. The longer barrels with porting don't present such a recoil problem as it does the percussion. The leaves on the ground shake when one of these goes off. With the short barrel, you get all of the above. You have to hold on to it.

500 smith is a hell of a fun caliber to shoot, recoil isn't bad at all out of the 8 3/8" barrel, even without the brake its enjoyable to shoot, especially if your not paying for ammo

300gr factory loads..30 yards with a scope & a shooting stick..it was walking so I aimed a little ahead & hit it in the neck..went right down..no bigger hole than with a 30.06 round..

Re: Any S&W 500 Owners Out There?
Well, got to shoot a few rounds out of my 500 yesterday and I was surprised that the recoil was as mild as it is. I was expecting alot more, the break helps alot, especially with the top ports keeping the muzzle climb down, its very manageable.
