Blind man fights to keep his guns......
Blind Rockaway Township man fights to get guns back http://bit.ly/uSMUUf
Authorities have gone to court to force a blind New Jersey man to forfeit his guns.
Morris County prosecutors say Steven Hopler, of Rockaway Township, is unfit to safely maintain 14 handguns.
The Daily Record of Parsippany reports the 48-year-old's attorney on Thursday told a judge that Hopler is capable to keep the weapons and has complied with conditions set by the court last year. Hopler completed a firearms safety course and underwent an alcohol evaluation.
A court in 1994 allowed Hopler to purchase firearms and shoot them under strict conditions.
The court hearing is scheduled to resume on Dec. 8.Criminals LOVE gun control. It gives them a safe work enviroment.

Re: Blind man fights to keep his guns......
That is completely bullshit, although no surprise to hear from New Jermany.
So what if he can't effective use them? He can't effectively use a TV either, does that mean he shouldn't be allowed to own a TV? Not to mention that owning guns is a Constitutionally protected right.Last edited by bac0nfat; November 18th, 2011 at 02:53 PM.

Re: Blind man fights to keep his guns......
But what if he accidentally shoots himself because he couldn't see where he was aiming.
Just trust New Jersey. It's for his own safety. It's okay, they know best.
-_-
Edit: I picked perhaps the worse example. Apparently he actually has shot himself when cleaning his weapon. Story
That aside, not grounds for taking away his constitutional rightsLast edited by Tetelestai; November 18th, 2011 at 02:53 PM. Reason: Irony

there was an exceptional topic on this a while back where Carnes, nineseven, lycanthrope (I always knew he was a closet libertarian ) and others made some excellent points.

Blind Man Shoots Home Intruder In Neck
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- A Gainesville man's lack of sight didn't stop him from defending his home from an intruder.
According to police, Cevaughn Curtis Jr., 28, broke into Arthur Williams' house in Gainesville at around 3 a.m.
Curtis, police said, knocked on the door, asked to be let inside but Williams refused. Curtis then tried to force his way into the home.
The 75-year-old retired taxi dispatcher, who's been legally blind for the past 61 years, opened fire on the would-be-thief who kicked down his door, police said.
Police said Williams shot Curtis, who tried to flee but collapsed on the front porch, inthe left side of the neck. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
Police said Curtis was charged with burglary of an occupied residence and battery on a person over the age of 65.
Officials are praising Williams for protecting himself.

Re: Blind man fights to keep his guns......
Makes sense. Why would a blind guy need to defend himself?
