Default Sighting in a Mosin PU sniper scope questions

I have a repro mosin sniper. How do I sight it in? I've read some detailed articles on the net, but I'm still a little confused.

Do I need to shim the scope on the mount or do I use the dials on the scope itself?

the answer is a bit of both...sight in first using the turrets on the scope, and if your reticle is off-center, you'll need to gently grind the pads on the mount if it's to the right in the FOV, and shim the mount between the mount and base if it's to the left in FOV. Hope that helps.

Immensely. The articles I was finding were a little too technical. thank you. Would you happen to know which knobs on the scope do what?

the knob on the left, which is marked with "0" and + and - 5 and 10 is windage, the knob on top marked 0-13 is elevation. the windage knob will move the reticle left or right in the FOV, the elevation knob will move it up or down, just fire a 3-shot group at 50 yards, use the knobs to move the pointer on the aiming post to the POI, then shim/grind the mount as necessary to move the reticle back to center.

First, make sure all the mount screw are tight. I start by centering the rear vertical screws (below).

Move the scope dials to zero and test fire. The side knob should control windage, the top knob controls elevation.

Test fire and adjust as needed. It's very likely the knob scales won't read zero when you're sighted in. If so, loosen the two screws on the top of the knob dial and adjust the knob scale to "re-zero" the scale.

If windage is too far off for knob adjustment, shim or file the mount pad to adjust.

Ah, thanks for reminding me. "13" is the range, in hundreds of meters.

Thank you, but would you mind filling in some details on your instructions?

What do you use to center the vertical adjustment elevation on the scope mount?

(Could you explain how to reset the scale?)

See "vertical tension screw" in this picture [image link]. Loosen one and tighten the other. If I recall, loosening the top screw and tightening the bottom will raise the rear of the scope, raising the point of impact with respect to the cross hairs. Again, this is from memory.

Refer to this image with the text (above). On your windage & elevation knobs, there should be two screws, loosening these screws will allow the scales to move but not the crosshair adjustment. This is how you recalibrate.

I'm fried after a -l-o-n-g- drive, I'll need some help on this one. Where do you see a reference to witness mark?
