    Default AR lower reciever ?

I would like to build an AR15 pistol. My friend has a stripped lower that I can buy cheap because he broke the trigger guard. The lower had been on a rifle.

So here is the important question. If we transfer the lower at an FFL can the lower be registered as a pistol, even though it came from the factory on a rifle?

From what I have read over the years NO, if you want to build a AR pistol buy a lower that is stamped pistol ex: Spikes AR pistol lower and have it registered as a pistol. This is what I did.

no, if the lower was a virgin and registered a pistol, yes, but since it was used for a rifle, no. best bet, either PSA or brownells. brownells has a spikes lower for $90, psa about $80. i would still by the other one if it's a good deal and throw a upper on it and go have some fun.

just found this, lower for $60

Thanks guys. I have 3 AR's and one AR pistol. The reason I wanted to build a pistol is because the compact size. I dont really need another rifle however since I cant build a pistol I guess a rifle it will be!

FYI if you see a lower with a broken trigger guard a company named Stark, makes the Stark se 1 pistol grip. This covers the portion of the tabs that break off. The grip retails for about 35 bucks. IIRC I paid about ten bucks for the stripped lower.

The Ar 15 lower receiver kits usually consist of 30 parts excluding stock assembly, the receiver and the pistol grip. This gun has best parts for use and with good quality.
