    Default The SKS Rifle

Thanks to the tip on the Yugo SKS sale at a major retailer I now have 2 added to the collection. My education is limited when it comes to SKS and I am still learning as much as possible.

Both of the rifles are Yugoslavia M59/66A1. The A1 designates the flip up/down "night sights." From what I can tell it is new and unissued with matching numbers. Although, there are many tiny numbers all over the rifle that do not match.

The accessory pack came with a well used and dirty leather ammo pouch. oil can holder, brass oil can, cloth gray sling, and cleaning rope. It did not come with the butt stock cleaning kit.

The accessory pack for the other rifle came with a lightly used leather ammo pouch, oil can holder, PLASTIC black oil can, used dirty skinny brown leather sling, and cleaning rope. It did not come with a butt stock cleaning kit.

Both leather pouches had writing on it that is in a different language. I wonder what they say?

Cosmoline clean up took about 2 hrs using RemOil and a rag. I did have difficulty getting the trigger and mag assembly back on.

I am interested in learning how the sight picture works on the grenade launcher and also when my rifle was made.

I know there are many other members that bought the same rifle so please post up pictures and maybe we can answer some questions we may have.

    Thanks

pick up some glow in the dark paint and redo your night sights.

M59/66 designates the model with the grenade launching spigot. The M59 was a standard SKS without the grenade launcher spigot.

Yugo SKSs differ from SKSs manufactured in other countries (Soviet Union, China, Romania, East Germany, North Korea, Albania, etc.) in that the Yugo SKS bores are NOT chromium-plated.

HTH, and congrats on the acquisitions!

You can usually pick them up at gun shows for around 50 cents a piece, or you can look online. Amazon has packs of 20 for $4.99 and add $3.38 for shipping and your at 42 cents per clip

Did you finger your rifle's butt? That's where all three of my cleaning kits were. Just watch out, mine were nasty and well-lubed with cosmoline.

Make sure you clean the firing pin channels real good! The firing pin should rattle back and forth in the bolt when you shake it. If not, you could have a slam fire situation.

    Congrats on the new rifles!

    Default SKS Rifle firing-pin

While you have the 2 pcs. of the bolt apart, check the serial #s on them, too. Should match everything else.
