Default .22 LR and .22 mag rifle

Is there a repeating rifle of any Pa hunting legal action type on the market that can cycle and chamber both .22 mag and .22 LR?

I don't know a lot about rimfires, and was wondering if there is such a beast.

Or does one have to buy 2 rifles to shoot both calibers?

Rifle? Not that I'm aware of. Here's why: 22LR and 22 magnum chambers differ in both length and diameter. 22LR should not be fired in a 22 magnum chamber. As such, there would have to be some means of swapping out the chamber or the entire barrel assembly.

Pistols *do* exist with this capability, the examples that come to mind are the Ruger single six convertible, North American Arms Mini convertible and the Colt Peacemaker 22. All are revolvers, swapping the cylinder satisfies the chamber requirement. I suspect there are a few other revolvers that can do this.

    Interesting, and highly unusual.

I'll have to check that out, thanks for the help!

If anyone can think of any others, please let me know. I was not aware that .22 mag is a different diameter than .22 LR.

The bullets are the same but the cases are different.

The 22mag's casing is not only longer than the .22LR but it is wider near the rim and the mouth of the case, and the .22mag is a slightly tapered case where as the .22LR is a straight wall case. The .22mag uses body seated bullets(bullet is seated within the case), where as the .22LR uses heal seated bullets that are the same diameter as the casing. The heal seated bullet has a lip on the butt end of the bullet where the case is crimped around.

Firing a .22 Short, Long, Long Rifle, or an old Extra Long in a .22mag chamber will cause casings to split due to the diameter differences.

I'd never heard of a .22 extra long either.

Figures that winchester would make an incompatible longer cartridge.

Sure wish there was a levergun that could chamber both... My Henry, Remmy 513, and 552 can shoot shorts. longs, long rifles.
Heritage makes some single-action revolvers with dual cyls - cheapest of the breed.
All of my guns are lubed with BACON GREASE.
