    Default 32 S&W 32 ACP

I have an H&R 732 marked 32 S&W. My question is can I shoot 32 ACP out of it. I have gotten conflicting info that you can only shoot 32 acp out of guns marked 32 S&W LONG?..Is this true.

    Thanks guys and Gals

No, you cant shoot 32acp out of it. "acp" means Automatic Colt Pistol.. it is a rimless cartridge, unlike the 32S&W which is rimmed.

I do believe it is. Double action revolvers general have a stop in the action or transfer bar to move in/out of the way. trying to find a good pic or info on it.

Single action revolvers are what you have to worry about for the most part.

.32 S&W is NOT .32 S&W Long. .32 ACP is semi rimmed. It will chamber and may fire in a .32 S&W revolver. This is an unsafe combination. The SAAMI pressure for .32 ACP is near enough 60% higher than .32 S&W.

I don't know if your 732 came with a hammer block or not. If it doesn't have a hammer block than it's not safe to carry with the hammer over a live chamber.

By chance does that revolver take 32 S&W Long? ...instead of 32 S&W? Does the cartridge stamp have an "L" after "32SW" or "32S&W"?

If it is a "Long" chambering:

If is a standard "S&W" gun:

According to my 1983 Gun Digest, the Model 732 will chamber and was designed for both the .32 S&W and the .32 S&W Long, which is a more powerful cartridge, also known as the .32 Colt New Police at one time. The gun is a very solid little revolver and listed new for $110 in 83.
The .32 ACP is not even remotely the same, and should never be used in a firearm not made for it.
    Enjoy it.

    Red face Re: 32 S&W 32 ACP

I had a H&R .32 s&w a few years back that an old friend gave to me. I went to the local gun shop and showed the gun to the the sales guy and was sold a box of .32 s&w long(they didn't have any .32 S&W in stock). He told me it would work just fine. I went to the range a few days later and shot the first six rounds. When I tried to eject them the shells were stuck. I pulled and pryed untill I got them out and every one of the shell casings had split about 2/3 the way up the side. I was probably pretty lucky that it didn't blow up on me. Needless to say I didn't fire any more .32 S&W long ammo out of a .32 S&W gun.

+1 on the fact that .32 acp is a different round altogether.

    Hope this helps!

    Ya I knew that some 32's can shoot 32acp such as a 32 mag or 32 H&R
