    Default Shotgun and Light

Ok, heres the deal. I currently use a Mossberg 500 for my home defense. It's not some trick out tactical shotgun but it does the job for now. Now I was wonder of what a simple way would be to mount a surefire or any light for that matter to the shotgun. Prefferable right to the barrel as my handguard on my shotgun doesnt have a rail or anything. Suggestions?

Buy one of the SF replacement HG's and don't look back.

This is the only way to go for shotguns. Any other method fails. Light clamps fail, coiled wire tape switches fail.

Do it right the first time and SAVE the money you would have otherwise spent on your initial fuckup. Get the surefire forend and don't look back.

    Another option.......

    http://www.botachtactical.com/kzre870pifo.html

    Rail $69.99

    Flashlight and Mount 139.99

    HG means handguard

I don't have this setup but am looking at going this way as one of my friends suggested it as that is what they use on their battalion uses on 870s.

I dunno ......... I prefer the sleek lines of the surefire forend. It maintains the SG's OEM profile.

I don't know what kind of build quality "KZ" is so i couldn't possibly recommend their railed forend...not to mention that one is apparently only made for the 870.

Surefire does make a railed forend for the 500 which costs about $150, add good vertical foregrip like a tango down and even a basic flashlight like a G2L and mount, you've spent more than you would have fore the surefire forend in the first place, and, as tony mentioned, you've really changed the feel and lines of the shotgun, which may require significant additional practice to be sure you can operate with such a setup.

If that is your preference you could take off the pistol grip and put rail covers on it.

I'm just not a fan of the surefire's price. Plus I'd prefer the ability to put in a brighter light.

As i covered in the last post, the price difference is not significant. Secondly, the ability to put a brighter light in the surefire forend is absolutely present. the forend will accept any lamp that will fit in a 6v surefire...i have a 235 lumen CREE drop-in on my AR that is bombproof, that will own pretty much anything you can conceivably put on there in output. That being said, it's a shotgun, it's designed for close quarters, how bright do you need to go?
