It's been my observation that neither Bush has been a glowing champion of the right to keep and bear arms at all. They both just never did anything bad in the form of additional gun control. We should have seen the restrictions on CCW with permit on federal property (outside DC at least) lifted the minute he took office, but we didn't. But in this area (like in many others) Bush was a far better choice than the persons running against him. We never seem to get a very good choice -- people get too entrenched in career politics and lose sight of the fact their first charge is protecting and defending the Constitution (even if they don't like that fact). They also lose sight of the fact they're public servants and work for us. However, everytime I see some new wacky restrictive gun control scheme introduced in Congress, it always seems to have a "D" next to the reps political party. It'd be great if Dems would get away from these stupid people and get someone worthwhile in their party who doesn't subscribe to gun control and other nanny state silliness.
